    I was wondering what the main differences are between these machines? I know the gt73 is the "new" model but is it a better design thermally and aesthetically? I was looking at the model with a 1070 in it. The price difference is around 200-300usd if iam not mistaken so i was wondering if it was worth it to get the73 over the72. Thanks!

    @jpsm
    EDIT: I was referring the the GS model that I was looking at, I don't know much about the GT72.

    I'm not sure you read my initial response so I just clipped it until I could find out more, when I was shopping around I found that there was a lot on confusion between the GS73, GT72 and GT73. Throw in a search for different sizes and manufactures it was a PITA. I just did a comparison on the MSI site and the big difference is the chip set, I think the GT72 can't have Gsync because it has Optimus technology, I'm not %100 certain so look at that before pulling the trigger.

    GT72 has the HM175 and the GT73 has the CM238, I made a PDF of the somparison.

    Good Luck

    Main difference between both models that I know of:
    - Physical GPU switch between the Nvidia and Intel card. GT73 has it, GT72 does not.
    - Cooling capability. GT73 cooling is made to handle a GTX 1080 and even a 1070 SLI. It has more vents and also allows for a better passive cooling. GT72 only sports a 1060 or a 1070. Cooling is still very impressive, but crippled.
    - Number of M.2 slots. I can't tell you much about this, but I did read numerous times about the GT73 having more M.2 slots, so you can install/raid more SSDs compared to the GT72.
    - Optical drive, probably. But not sure about this one.

    I hope this slightly helps. The GT73VR is much thicker (and heavier) than the GT72VR, but it offers much more goodies in a package. The GT73 is definitely worth considering.

    The GT73VR does have G-Sync, provided the dGPU mode is on. If both the GTX 1070 and the panel are G-Sync capable, then the only condition for G-Sync to work is to have the dGPU directly wired to the internal panel. GT73VR can do this. The GT72VR is permanently dGPU locked, so it can always use G-Synk.

    So you can't use the iGPU on the GT72?, I guess I either had it backwards or was confused with another model. There are a lot of options out there.

    No, the GT62VR and GT72VR have the iGPU disabled and no physical switch to get it to work. Optimus is disabled to ensure G-Sync is fully functional.

    By the way, just to ensure there are no confusions:
    The GT73VR of this year is equivalent to the GT60 and the GT72/GT72S from last year. The GT62VR and GT72VR come in between: They are basically crippled versions of the last year's model in order to get the price down and target a more budget-friendly community who still wants high end features intact.
