    Is it possible to upgrade the graphic card on GT640 from GTS250m on to a better one i.e. ATI5850 ???

    Yes. I think the only difference between GT640 and GX640 is the graphic card. Same thing with GT740 and GX740.

    Technically, there should be no issue. They're all MXM III video cards. I don't know where to find MXM cards for sale, though.
