Would it be possible to purchase the 980m GPU on ebay and install it into the GS60? I'm assuming it should work similar to a standard desktop GPU upgrade with the only necessary drivers being downloaded off Nvidia's website. What about the 980m?

Those chips are soldered on, so no upgrade is possible.

    GT series is upgradeable though.

You assume incorrectly sir. GS60 is does not have an MXM designed GPU (like GT60/70/72/80 laptops), but as superguy pointed out soldered onto the motherboard. Your only upgrade path (if compatible with your chassis) would be to replace the entire motherboard. Since your CPU is also soldered on, this will NOT be cheap, and not at all worth it IMO.

You really couldn't even do it with a new motherboard as there are no GS60 models with a 980M. The GTX 970M is the top GPU at this time for this model.
