As the title suggests is it in any way possible to upgrade the graphics card in the msi gt725 or is it not worth the hassel?
Has anyone had experience on Battlefield 3 using a single HD4850 and what was the performance/settings/visual like? Thanks alot.

The max of the system is the 4850. Maybe the GTX 280m should work, but that's a very rare card. Pretty much the max is: QX9200/[email protected], 8GB ram and the stock 4850 or the 1GB Alienware version.

Thanks for the replies. Is crossfire not an option and is the 1gb version a decent upgrade? Also running 32bit vista so 64vista or 64seven would improve performance i would imagine? I'm just thinking is it worth it cost wise.

The vga update not worth it alone. An overclocked quad is a big step, but it can be defeated by an i7. So you have the choice: spend money on it and sell it later for less money or sell it now and move on to the next level. Maybe the best choice can be Ivy Bridge when it comes out. So in my opinion don't spend more money on an older platform. Just wait for the new.

well if you upgrade to gt 780 you will get better Ram (but to not much and not really necesarry for gaming) better screen resolution full hd (but i dont think there is anyone who plays full HD on 780 ) the cpu i7 2630 is faster than Q9000
graphic card GTX 560M, 3gb ram not needed for gaming

Gt 725 support up to 8gb ram it cost around 80$ on ebay

if you want full hd you can replace screen 80$

if you want better cpu you can replace to any quad core cpu Q9200ES cost around 100$ on ebay

graphic card 4850 is good enough to play any game and there is no point in upgrading it.

if you upgrade the cpu in 725 to Q9200ES you can overclock it to say 3.7Ghz and it will outperform i7 2630 and 2635 very easy

If I were you I wouldn't buy gt 780 i would rather upgrade the CPU and RAM if you really need it. #

Next year Intel will release new CPU's called IVY bridge, you will need new motherboard and also ddr4 will come out. You could wait till around may next year and then buy a new laptop.

cuz of ivy will support pci 3.0 you will most probably see a new graphic cards too.

ivy will have the same socket as sandy bridge in 780 but if you would want to buy 780 and next year replace the cpu to ivy there will be no internal graphic support nor ddr4 nor pci 3 and sata 4 and 5 not sure what else and not sure if ivy will work in 780 at all some say yes others say no.

The answer to your question is :

upgrade ram in 725 to 8gb
    install windows 7 x64
upgrade the cpu to Q9200ES and overclock it with Throttle-stop to 3.2Ghz

Thank you for the reply/s. My msi gt725 model actually has a 1920x1200 full HD screen so that's no problem. the cpu/ram upgrade seems a good investment. Not sure what the cheapest 64bit windows 7 is though.

i actually forgot LOL yeah 725 has HD screen

if you live in the UK, buy win 7 x64 upgrade at PCWorld Currys etc, it cost around 30£ . there is two DVD's in the box one is win 7 x32 upgrade and other win 7 x64 upgrade.

full version of win 7 home premium cost over 100 £.

win 7 Upgrade version is a full version too but locked, you can install it on a new hdd but you wont be able to register copy of windows as genuine and to make it work and register it on new hdd you only have to change after installation one thing in win registry. ;)
