Aside from the cool buttons that control overclocking, and the styling, whats the difference between these laptops? They seem to be very similar in terms of specs.

    Thanks.

Other than what you mentioned the specs should be identical.
The 1651 you can customize so you will not have to stay with MSI's hdd, cpu, and memory configuration.

Really...so they made the 1651, and then decided to make another laptop that's identical but wrapped in a fancier case? Ok then...1651 it is.

Also it says on the specs sheets that the loaded GX620 will be 5.94lbs, while the 1651 is 6.2lbs. I don't know how they'll manage that without weakening it.

Weights should be just about identical, when they are released and we have them we can get a more accurate weight.

    Hi Noclue,

I have never seen a MSI laptop ...

Q1: Does any Store in California carry this so I can go and see one in person!?!?

Q2: How is the Build Quality? You know the Case, Cooling System, ...?

    Thanks,
    G! :)

I do not know of any in CA that you can walk-in. The build quality of msi notebooks are great, they are very cool running and quiet notebooks. The fit and finish on all we have seen are perfect.

If you look on my site there is a section called "Notebook Photos", you will see it on the top right of the site. There you can find alot of high resolution photos for all the current msi and other manufacture models. You can get a much better look at the notebooks with these photos.

    Hi Rob,

Great pictures on your site ... really helped me a lot ... especially the ones from the bottom of the Laptop ... showed me that panels have perforation and I assume the laptop can stay cooler a lot easier.

BTW, I guess you plan to add the MSI-1651 pictures at a later time!

    Thanks,
    G! :)

I am looking to buy a notebook very soon. MSI is an unfamiliar company for me and I would like to know a few things:

    1. What is the company's reputation?
    2. What is the customer service like?
(directly from MSI, not just the resellers)
    3. What is the overall build quality of MSI notebooks?
    4. What is the overall screen quality/clarity of MSI notebooks.

The GX620 looks like a great notebook. I like the idea of a turbo option for the graphics card. This will presumably save battery life. And from the looks of it, this notebooks has decent pricing.

If anyone could clarify these things for me, that would be great. Thanks.

MSI is within the so-called Top 5 manufacturers.
    ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, Abit, ECS.
Customer Service and support are decent, no 24/7.
    Overall quality is above average.
Screen quality/clarity are fine and customizable.
All NB replacement parts are order-able directly with MSI, and Out of Warranty service is also available.

@ Elite ... I am NOT so sure if I would buy a MSI laptop directly from MSI themselves ...

I have been calling their North America Headquarter ... Tel 626 913 0828
Website: msicomputers.com ... for 2 days and have not been to reach anyone.

    G! :)

All you have to do is press "0" and you will get a live operator every single time.

    ^_ _ ^

As impatient as I can get sometimes, believe me that was my OPTION #1 ... every time ... and NO LUCK.

I even tried the Tech Support route ... Option #3. You name it I tried it ... 2 days from 7:30AM until 5:30PM at 15 minutes intervals ...

I think ... like I mentioned in another thread ... if I get this unit I will ONLY buy it from a RESELLER and most likely opt for the pricey 3 year Service.

    Thanks NoClue!

    G! :)

Yeah it appears that the GX620 is just a 1651 wrapped in prettier "gaming" clothing.

    ///wild guess

Most likely CAS Timing, in other words you might be able to notice a difference if the OCZ is lower latency versus regular latency.

Latency is the correct answer. Whether thats worth it to you is up for debate.

Tom's hardware has some benchmarks regarding the value of lower latency RAM. It takes some digging to find it though.
