I found an insane deal on a laptop IDE optical drive, but alas the 1651 has a SATA connector. I have found that people have had success hooking IDE harddrives up in SATA optical bay slots, but I haven't heard of people doing it with optical drives.

Does anyone know of a solution for PATA optical drive in a SATA drive bay?

There are adapters that are easy to use but if you use one of them the drive won't fit inside anymore....

I'd suggest you go the external route and put the drive in an usb enclosure.

Well or check out the MSI office and order an optical multi drive, wont cost that much.

does anyone have any experience with the use of that adapter? It seems like it would only increase the protrusion by a mm. My experience with non-stock optical drives in laptops is that they underbite a good bit anyway.
