Recently installed 186.03 and noticed my semi-idle (web browser and some programs running, no games or heavy cpu/gpu) temperatures hover around 65 celsuis, which seems a tad bit high. Running Windows 7 x64, will try to clean out the vents when I find a screw driver and see if that helps.

Attached a poll, wanted to get a feel for what people's idle temperatures are.

My 9600m gt idles between the 40' to 50's. 65 is high.

What OS are you running? Do you recommend I clean out the fans or have any ideas on what is causing the high temps? It seemed to me that Windows 7 runs at higher temps than my Vista x86.

    Thanks.

I do recommend checking to see if there is dust clogged up in the fan.

K, I haven't done this with the MSI-1651, anything special I should watch out for? I don't have compressed air so what would you recommend?

I found a straw and used that to blow in 'compressed' air. Running the computer now and will keep an eye on the temperatures to see how they fair. Anyone know if this method of using a straw is unadvised?

Also, can you actually take out the fan? The metal part over it has screws and I took them off, but it doesn't seem to budge and I don't want to accidentally damage anything.

Did you try (not sure which OS you have) the official site? I also have the option to install the audio drivers, but right above that should be the option for the actual driver. Did you go to the nvidia control panel and then click on 'system information' on the bottom to confirm driver is 186.03?

yes i tried the official one it does not find the gpu. it seems to work on 64bit but not on 32bit..others said they had this issues as well in a few other threads here maybe it because you are on 64bit. the only option listed in the box is the audio driver nothing more.

Interesting, if I see a solution I'll post it here. I'll try to install on my vista 32-bit installation and see if I have a similar problem.

Just a quick question, but on you msi-1651, using speedfan can you regulate your fan speed? I can't seem to find a program that will recognize the fans on this computer.

Seems like cleaning the fan out partially was a big help, temps hover around 56C (9-10C lower) with several programs (no games or extremely heavy load). Hopefully can do a little more cleaning with real tools and get it even lower.

How often do you all clean your fans out?

Do you mean right-clicking the desktop is slow? There's a registry fix for that.

Gaara42, do you have powermizer enabled? It slows down the gpu when not doing anything intensive.

I don't seem to have the option in the registry, here is my GPU-Z view...
I downloaded one of the programs on the forum, ask to add a registry key for it but not sure about whether it will work.

Okay, you do have it. To be honest, I wouldn't worry to much about it. Those temps are safe.

K, thanks. Not sure if you have an MSI-1651, but if so, have you figured out a way to control the fan speed?
