My second one after the keyboard stopped working on my other.

Now it wont boot properly, screen doesnt turn on or anything.

happened when i tried to run 3D mark 2005 and it froze, so i reset the power, and now the screen is just black after turning it on, and it doesnt appear to load windows (no windows start-up noise)

Anyone have any idea how to solve it? I've only had it one day

    I've got the same problem.

No display -- not even a flicker. Could bad memory or CPU cause this? I have a 1032.

Pull out the AC cord and battery for ten seconds, and see if that helps. I find this does a hard reset of the hardware (which includes the BIOS loading defaults).

keep the battery out for a little longer. once i thought i fried my computer, but a computer savvy acquaintance told me to remove my battery for 12+ hours. next day, i put the battery back in and it was working.

The Black Screen O' Death persists.

I've reseated the CPU and memory, tried changing memory slots, verified heatsink contact to the CPU and GPU and confirmed that the fan is running.

    What next?

I tested the memory in a friend's laptop, and it works OK.

    Dart,

What brand of memory are you using?
    and
has your laptop ever boot successfully booted at one time?

dart, you should know that msi machines are pretty picky about their ram. certain brands just don't work well. i forget which. other people have had the same problem...

I've got a single 512 MB of Kingston KVR 333, and no it has not booted. I tried some Crucial 266 and it didn't work either.

I'm trying to find someone with another "M" that I can try.

That should be fine. If I recall correctly, only Kingston and Super Talent are approved.

the black screen of death problem, if at the point of loading Windows, has to do with the ATI driver version you're using eg I tried to get creative and got one from another website. Using the one that comes in the CD that comes with the laptop solves that problem.

Unless you got black screen from bootup then that's a different problem...

This is a non-post, no loading of anything situation. I don't want to buy another processor just to try it, but I'm having trouble finding someone with a Pentium M.

    Dart,

Are you getting power to the system? is the battery indicator light going on? Are you getting fan spinup or optical drive spin?

i hope you are not planning on putting a pentium m in the ms-1029....only turions (maybe athlon64?) are compatible with that chipset...

It really does sound like a cpu/RAM problem, one or the other is failing, since you're not getting to the video display at all but your system is starting up.
