I found 3dmark11 performance benchmark GE72 960M+i7-5700HQ

Nice find, but the score reflects the 960M, and doesn't speak much to the CPU (not recognized by the benchmark, ergo benchmark is not optimized). I want to see the temps...... at 14nm (vise 22nm), the new processors are sure to be more efficient.
-
That looks nice, wonder what kind of screen will gt72 gonna be, tn or ips
-
Awesome. Does anyone know roughly how the Broadwell 5700, 5750, 5850, and 5950's map to Haswell's?
-
-
All I want to know is the exact model number and manufacturer of that g-sync GT72 panel.

Not for me, but I've been known to be patient.

Any guesstimate as to when Xotic will have them for sale?

Are these new CPUs quad-core or dual-core? I know the Broadwell i7 cpus that are already out are dual-core. Newegg has the release date on all the new MSI laptops as 6/7/15. As I was about to buy a certain Asus laptop tonight/tomorrow, I'm checking these new MSI laptops out just to see if I should consider them.

Who needs Broadwell 5th generation;Skylake 6th generation is where everyone should focused.
Skylake is the successor to Broadwell, which itself was only created last year. Intel’s processor releases follow the company’s ‘tick-tock model’, where Broadwell is a ‘tick’ and Skylake is a ‘tock’ — in broad strokes, this means that it shares the same fabrication process while introducing a new micro-architecture.
Computex 2015 taking will betaking place in Taipei over the course this week, it’s expected that we’ll see a lot of new hardware unveiled. -

Agreed.... didn't I allude to this in post #1? LOL!

That new GS70 Stealth Pro 607 or the 488 model. Which is better?
-
I was going to go for the Asus UX501, but that updated MSI GS60 607 is very tempting for the same price. Each has pros/cons, so now it's a tough choice.

As I'm about to pull the trigger on a GT72, do we have a release date on these yet? And also, does anyone know if the Skylake architecture will be compatible with the existing CPU socket?
-
As far as the GE series goes, so far I've only seen broadwell updates in the 960m and 970m versions of the GE62 and GE72. What happened to the 965m?

Any news or reviews on the professional versions PE60 / PE 70 / PX60?

I agree that that it is worth waiting for Skylake, but you should also consider the extra dollars for a brand new technology. -
And yes, I think I'll go ahead with my current Dominator Pro 445. The new tech will probably not be cheap!

So according to MSI website the new 5th gen processor is around 7% faster than the 4th Gen

The MSI GT72 Dominator seems to have been refreshed with the new CPU (Broadwell) but a switch from 8gb to 4gb 980m is strange. Any specific reasons for this shift?

Yes, just read about these upgrades with skylake coming (unless someone doesn't want to wait) I would think many would skip these.
From what I read about a week or two ago Mobile Skylake processors are still scheduled for Sept-Nov correct? I haven't read enough to find out when these Broadwell notebooks will be available but if its a month or so would it be even worth getting these (if you can wait a couple months). -

Are there any benchmarks posted for the newer gen CPU's comparing them with the 4th gen based on performance, heating etc? From this review the temps seem higher compared to the previous gen CPU's.
Here are some numbers from a fellow members older MSI GS60.
MSI GS60 with i7-4710HQ (Haswell), FHD, GTX 970M
3dmark 11 total: 8,856 (<= lower due to single channel RAM, others get 9,100+)
3dmark 11 graphics: 9,965
3dmark 11 physics: 6,571 (<= lower due to single channel RAM, others get 8,000+)
max CPU temp: 73-75 C
max GPU temp: 70-71 C
3dmark firestrike total: 6,626
3dmark firestrike graphics: 7,628
3dmark firestrike physics: 8,801 (<= lower due to single channel RAM, others get 9,200+)
max CPU temp: 75-78 C
max GPU temp: 76-79 C
Any specific reasons why the 5th gen CPU's seem to be running hotter? Would like to see if they are better on the MSI GT72. -

Yeah, the jury is still out on CPU temps, and we need to see other elements, such as ambient temps. Also, I notice at 4 cores and 8 threads, the new processor is still pulling the same wattage, despite it's 14nm process. It will be interesting to see how these 5th Gen processors fair in the flagship notebooks, which provide more breathable/effective cooling solutions. I am not going to take much from this one video review, but I will say, my next flagship will be Skylake.

Same wattage but absolute performance should be up.
