Hi to all Respected members. I have a MSI gt70-0ND-219US. Everything is working fine except today that when I restarted my laptop it took very long for windows to load. After the windows flag it stayed on the same page & the windows flag kept on flashing, animation & also the CPU light was on nonstop. It took atleast 4 minutes to reach the login screen :(. I thought that maybe it was due to dust on the fan so I blew some air & it had some dust on it too. But after turning it on the same thing happened. Long loading times. But after the it reaches the logon screen the CPU light does blink & everything goes fasty fast. Can anyone please tell what is going on with my gt70 laptop. Thanks in advance

My guess is that it is just due to windows updates, unlikely to be hardware issues. Don't worry :)

That is a long time to get to the Windows screen. Have you done any Windows updates recently like FeiJianKe mentioned or have you installed several programs recently. You can get into msconfig and turn off certain programs from starting up every time Windows does. What kind of hard drive do you have?

Run ccleaner to get rid of junk files in the system, additionally inspect the Startup programs.
Reboot it again and see if boot time improves.

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply to my question member. I think I did install 3 updates 5 days ago for windows update. Also I have Toshiba 1TB HDD primary & 2nd HDD 250GB. I don't have many programs installed. I take good care of my msi laptop. No rubbish programs & all clean installs. I am doing a update today macilious software removal, IE security update & 2 updates for .NET framework. I hope that the issue resolves. Will keep all the respected members updated. Thanks for all the replies members.

Respected Hutsady@xoticPC I haven't installed any programs for the past 3 months at all. Uninstalled all the updates from 9th of may which I did except a security update that only remains. Still the same problem persists. It takes 8 minutes in total to from press the power button for the gt70 to reach from BIOS to Windows Login screen. I have checked everything that I could think of but still nothing seems to be out of order. I am very confused. Please if any 1 can shed more light on the situation. Thanks in advance. I have windows 7.

    Hi leo,

You might want to test the drive that you have Windows installed to. Some useful applications for doing so include: HDTune, CrystalDiskInfo, and CrystalDiskMark. A few other things to consider/figure out:

    1. How full is your OS drive?
    2. Have you installed anything at the time the problem arose (whether intentional or inadvertently)?
    3. Any potential for a virus infection?

And hopefully TRIM is enabled if you are using a SSD.

Thanks for the reply prostar. Installed CrystalDiskInfo & it is showing caution in yellow colour error C5 current pending sector count in my 1TB HDD (rotational). Buffer size is 8192kb. What is problem I don't understand. Was thinking of doing a factory reinstall to out of box state using recovery disk to original state when I bought it for the first time.

I have checked again & still the unstable sectors number remains the same 88. I am backing up my entire data& doing a complete factory format & reinstall again. All the HDD when in windows is completely working properly & doing everything smoothly. No problems.

You mentioned previously that you have SSD drives in there. You can check the manufacturer's site to see if they have any firmware updates for them.

No dear Hutsady. I said have plain rotational HDD drives. No SSD drives r present in my laptop. Finished the reinstall completely after formatting to factory out of the box state. Everything working smooth as butter. No errors & the time it takes from pressing the power button to windows login complete is 2 minutes & 25 seconds. ;-). I think that some fishy software got installed in the back ground without my knowledge. Everything is ok now. Thanks to all the members for the reply & advices. Appreciate it a lot.

Oh I'm sorry and reread your earlier post

    "I have Toshiba 1TB HDD primary & 2nd HDD 250GB"

My brain just filled in SSD for your 2nd drive.

2mins 25 seconds is still pretty long, though much better then you were getting. Which drive is you OS installed on? Is it a 5400RPM, that would explain you longer boot times.

You should get a SSD though if you want really fast boot times like 20 seconds :)

Glad to hear you pretty much got it fixed up.

Thanks so much for the assist & replies Hutsady. Appreciate it a lot. Well finished grooming back the GT70 to it's original state. I think the 1TB is 5400rpm But on the label on the outside near the mouse pad it is written 7200rpm. hmmmm. I think that it was program that as messing up with the drive. I have OS installed on C which is patitioned into 2. C & D. C drive contains the OS & D contains the data. Currently 426GB out of 552 is free.
