I'm interested in purchasing this laptop: FORCE 1761 / MSI 1761

However, I live in Canada (Toronto) and I'm worried about the warranty.
It says on the website that:

"MSI Branded Systems come with up to a 3 Year USA / 1 Year Global MSI Parts and Labor Warranty with 1 Year of Accidental Damage Protection (Accidental Damage Protection requires registrations with MSI within 30 Days of purchase."

So I could only get maximum 1 year of warranty?

The default setup for this laptop would already have 1 year of labor and parts warranty.

Other people on this forum have recommended I get the 3 year warranty upgrade for $99, but would this not be possible due to my location?

    Thanks guys. :D

They just say USA because it applies to more people. Of what I've read in the MSI warranty policy, MSI considers Canada and the USA to be the same region so you have 3 year warranty already. The repair depot is just over in Markham so it's nice and close and you can drop off your laptop in person if you need repair.

But from what I understand the Force model isn't "MSI Branded" - it's a barebone, so it's technically "branded" by XoticPC (someone correct me if I'm wrong). I'm pretty sure barebone models are covered through the XoticPC warranty, not the MSI warranty.

Oh if you're talking about barebones, you need to talk to your reseller. So talk to Xotic about how theyd deal with it, as well as shipping for repairs.

Sorry I skipped over that part of teh OP

I believe your reseller will redirect you to MSI if it's a barebone. One user had a 1761 570M GTX fry and he had to ship the GPU to a MSI depot.

I bought my MSI barebone PowerPro from Powernotebooks and from what I understand I will be going entirely through them for any RMA or warranty issues. In this case I believe the reseller might look to MSI for parts or whatever, but you (the user/buyer) would only be going through the reseller and shouldn't have to deal with MSI directly. PNB has a specific warranty for PowerPro/barebone models. For all of the other branded models, they redirect you to the actual Asus or MSI or Sager warranties.

I would just ask Xotic directly instead of relying on unsure information on the forums. Maybe it's different for each reseller.

I agree, it never hurts to double check and give them a call or even PM one of the XoticPC employees here on these forums.
