Ya'll opened my eyes and helped me purchase my current GT 725 about 3 years ago when I was askin around for notebook advice. I've since come to like MSI, a brand I had never heard of prior, but as I come back to possibly buy a new laptop, I see that MSI's are not nearly as affordable as I remembered them (compared to other company's offerings)...am I mistaken? They almost seem to be encroaching on Alienware territory...and I hate me some Alienware...

I mean, I still think MSI laptops are lookin great, but as far as price : performance, did something happen while I was away? Still researching, but I am leaning more towards Sager or HP this time around as far as bang for my buck...Sager being a company that I also have not had any experience with...or HP...still unsure...maybe ASUS because I liked their mobo's back when I made PC's in the early 2000's lol...halp!

Companies are just being more competitive, that's why alienware isn't regarded as a market leader for high end laptops because of companies such as sager/clevo, msi, etc. MSI are still really good value, another option would be sager/clevo. What sort of system was it that you were looking for spec wise.

Have a look for the barebones such as the 16F2.

If they still sold the older models, MAN they would be super affordable.

A few companies sell refurb or new gx640 ms-1656 with 5850 barebones for like 400$ occasionally but I guess most of the old stock gets sent back to MSI for spares or something

One problem is that their 'lower end' systems really aren't much better priced, especially the ms-1675 ge600 barebones, I've been wanting one of those forever but its more pricey than some of the newest models and none of the resellers will budge on the price

I'm still toying with options, trying to stay around a $1500 price point (realistically $1200, but can probably rationalize the resale value of my current GT725 to the wife to bump it up a bit lol).

I love the look of the GT series, but I want to make sure I get something that will last me 3-4 years, so far I've been leaning towards a Sager NP8170 just based off of what I read through various subcategories on these forums, but I've never purchased a custom made rig like that before so a little hesitant...

...then again, I'm still not sure I want to buy a new notebook anyways, just messing around, still...the MSI's look nice, if only they were cheaper bah! Been out of the game for a while so catching up on all the new specs etc heh, just havin fun for now.

I am looking at the 16F2 because of its crazy value actually. $980-$1100 base for a GTX570m is amazing. The regular full MSI version of this system starts at $1500 though, ald all you get extra is LED lighting and junk. Here, have a look.
