After reading a review of MSI gt70 2OD that it gets very hot and noisy because it only has a single fan, im wondering if all MSI notebooks are like this?

Yes, all comes with a single fan of ball bearing type, except GS70 with 2 fans.
It only gets hot and noisy when you run intensive applications, however to a reasonable level.
There's a cooler boost button that you can press which will allow the fan to run at full speed, then it will be noisier than typical usage.

If you re-paste its absolutely fine. Ill give you an example. I normally do intense things on mine when its on a notebook cooler with turbo fan on. But few days ago was stuck on the couch in front of a chick flick. THe laptop was on my lap, no turbo fan, and it went through 2.5 hours of BF4 FLAWLESSLY. On ultra settings no less.

If you have a good paste job, the larger single fan moves more air then most dual fan solutions.

Any heat issues with the notebook are due to the paste job or bad thermal pads, something that can be fixed. Unless you are very unlucky and your heatsink is broken.
