@Phoenix What are the temperature like on the CPU & GPU undress stress and did you try to overclock the cpu ? If you got around testing that yet.

Hey man i came across this video on youtube today, it's about the built quality of the gt73vr. Things like screen flexing.

How true is this, do you experience this on your unit? Hopefully it's an isolated case

I don't treat my laptop that way, I suppose if you like to twist your screen a lot then it could be an issue. I wouldn't let that guide your decision. I bet the guys next video is about light bleed.

So all this talk has made me reconsider my purchase. Should I go with the Sager NP-9172, or the msi gt73vr-titan 427? Not trying to hijack this thread, but I would appreciate the advice.

no it was my machine only, don't let this steer you off. Just have the reseller test GSYNC if it's there or not before they ship it

    my machine is being replaced

max CPU temps were 75C in AIDA64 Extreme but didn't get a chance to test overclocks or the GPU yet as I sent the machine back to get it replaced for a GSYNC one

what HID is actually replacing in your machine...display screen? GPU or.....? to get you the G-Sync...

    the entire system

If the replacement system also doesn't have GSYNC, then I will take it anyway as there is no other machine that suites my needs

I want a machine that has an FHD screen 120hz/5ms and that can take 3 m.2 SSDs and at least 1 2.5inch SSD

They have the GT83VR but the screen on that is not 120hz

You feel the difference between G-Sync on and off?

At 60fps, I get no problems with Vsync active so I don't really need G-sync.

BTW - what happened to you? I must have missed the exact post explaining the problem

Phoenix your machine doesn't have gsync? I thought gt73vr has it all along because i saw it in the ones with skylake. Does it have the option in the nvidia control panel? Mine is arriving this week. (Feeling anxious right now)

don't feel anything. we said it 10 times already, it was an issue with my particular machine which is being replaced.

Let's not assume anything until I get my replacement unit

It should work with the newest machine. Dragon Center itself as a version of silent option. I uninstalled Dragon Center on my skylake machine and instead installed Silent Option without issues and it works.

The media and overall lack of understanding in materials has led people to believe that items need NO flexing always, that flexing is bad and related to evil, which is incorrect. Flexing of this kind, without permanent deformation (this is important), allows elastic absorption. In systems with NO flex, this can mean catastrophic failure resulting in fracture, or permanent damage/bending. The screen portion is not designed to be bent all the time or continuously. Opening/closing a laptop does not bend the screen like the video shows, as the video is purposely bending it on its own as a test. Comparing flexing to the overall body of the laptop and you will find quite a sturdy construction.

It is always ideal to have a % of flex, and a sufficient robust construction to remain sturdy. The LCD does flex under force, but it is also a part of the notebook not designed to be a point of support, meaning you are not supposed to hold your laptop by the screen only. I have found, in practice, that I have 0 issues with the screen itself nor the flexing.

the added bonus is that the machine is quite lighter than it looks. If you have time to find the video of how MSI stress tests their machines, including dropping etc, you will see how it handles mistreatment. By the way, you should always treat your computer with care haha :)

It seems only Phoenix's machine exhibited the issue. It is being handled by HID already. We don't really have other reports about this issue.

When did you address the g sync issue in this thread? I must've missed it. I've been reading the thread specially when your unit arrived. Can you please elaborate about the g sync issue. Does the g sync option shows in the nvidia control panel?

The reseller didn't guarantee me g sync but i still proceeded because i was sure that it does have until now. I might have trouble returning it for exchange in case it doesn't have.

    Chi Mei N173HHE-G32 no G-SYNC?

what's so hard for them to turn on the laptop, right click on the desktop, nVIDIA Control Panel to see if GSYNC is there or not?

And you have the issue of cats and the mechanical keyboard.

I wish you good luck with the replacement!

May I humbly suggest you have them turn on and check for g-sync BEFORE they start to customize your machine? (Assuming they arrive at HID with a stock SSD that has the factory OS installed). That way it would be easier to tell if the problem is hardware related or has something to do with customizations or the clean install.

yes offcourse they will do that

they will also include the factory image on a USB Stick so if I do my own clean install and it doesn't have GSYNC, then I can go to the factory image

Their tech told me that it doesn't have g sync he said that he also checked with the msi personnel. But i didn't believe it because I've seen with my own eyes that gt73vr has g sync it was a skylake model though. The only problem is that they won't easily accept the reason for retuning is because it doesn't have g sync. Unlike in hidevolution it is mentioned in their website that it does have g sync, that's why they will take responsibility if it doesn't have it. Keeping my fingers crossed, we also ordered at the same date january 18 so i dont know man.

When Sager starts catering to the enthusiasts and becomes a Prema Partner and when they update their ancient drivers like the ones on the slow Clevo site, I will support them

Speaking of the Avatar, I was waiting for someone to comment on that. I will change it back now, going back old school

That's good to know, because although the machine is for work, I'm paying for it out of pocket. My company would pay if I asked, but I prefer to independently own the tools with which I earn my living. In the (hopefully unlikely) event of losing or quitting my job, the last thing I want is to be computerless on the same day when I also lose my income. Also, if I buy it myself, I can spec what I want and not something per corporate standard. (In fairness, however, I should add that as the IT lead I am the one who chooses the standards.)

very good logic, and if you change jobs, you don't have to worry about buying another laptop, copying all your data, then setting it up from scratch, let alone the wait time if you wanted a custom laptop like this one.
