    That was the idea.
This laptop will be mainly used for gaming so even if I want a higher res I can get a external monitor or just hook it up to my HDTV.

    Ten fingers only?

Okay, uh.... Ryzeki, you get your right pointer and left ring finger. IkasKratosGuy, you get right pinky and left middle finger. I'll get thumb, middle, and index fingers on both hands. Why do I get more fingers? I'm just that awesome.

How can an odd number of dimms be dual chanell ? I never heard of such a thing in my life ! Whenever i setup 3 dimms on my desktop motherboard, it showed as single chanell.
The only way dual chanell would activate would be with even dimms, 2 or 4.

Can anyone tell me how is such thing possible ?

What I'm saying is, getting the i7 840 QM processor instead of the 740 QM processor is a cost difference of several hundred dollars, whether I got the MSI or something else. I wonder what, precisely, the 840 would gain me. My heavy demands is primarily for graphics quality and a lot of the graphics processing is handled in the GPU anyhow. I'm not sure what the 840 CPU would do for me. Can anyone give some specific examples?

The kinds of things I would want to do....hmm...running applications from Moodle, Blender, Photoshop, and Office all at the same time.

It would gain you nothing more than a hole in your wallet. The 740qm is more than enough. However if you have 575 usd to burn for 1 to 5% more performance, it's your choice and your choice alone.

Several things, mainly the fact that the G53 is pretty much vaporware in my view and the features (ports, RAID, speakers, etc) are hard to turn down. Like I said, though, I'd be very conflicted if the G53 was selling at this moment.

Dauf isn't hellish, he's just misunderstood. And don't worry. My avatar ADD will compel me to change it soon, anyway.

Well I got mine, its great except for 2 major flaws... the webcam doesnt work.. there are no drivers for it on the website as it says it will work with the OS native drivers... well there are no native drivers that I know of, because msn doesnt detect it. Secondly, the bluetooth wont seem to discover or pair with anything. I bought a brand new bluetooth mouse from xoticpc along with this laptop, it wont be discovered. I tried a ps3 headset, and an iphone 4.. this pc wont discover anything, and the bluetooth button needs to be turned on and off because the bluetooth stops broadcasting after less than a minute... the iphone can see it for a short while then it disappears. Ive installed the latest drivers,, so no clue what to do to get my cam or my mouse to work.

Gaming wise, its rock solid, 10.8 catalyst and it runs like a dream, no crashes, artfacts or hint of slowdown. This machine is a powerhouse. The screen isnt the best in the whole world, but its more than passable.. very shiny tho. The keyboard is solid, the design is solid. The Raid was a real to get rid of.
All in all im happy, but i'd be happier with a working cam and working mouse.

Also, the sound is flawless, you can tell there is bass, its not overly tinny at all, far from it. The track pad is a little iffy, but good, i just need to adjust it to my liking I think.

Yup I did, on and off, no luck, i'm using windows 7 x 64 enterprise if that makes a difference... i've reinstalled the driver, used the function key combo, the upper button, even disabled and reenabled in control panel device manager... no luck detecting either the mouse or headset.

Speaking of speakers, I wonder what became of that one Asus monstrosity with the Bang and Olufson speaker suite.

You'd expect people to be giving raving reviews about those speakers.

Whats the most reliable and best value for money memory to put in this machine? I presume they all come with 3*2gb? Can you get a deal for 3 * 4gb ddr3 1333 anywhere?

If you mean the icon in the lower right hand corner of the bluetooth symbol, yes.. as of right now i uninstalled the bt drivers, pressed on and off again and windows installed generic bt drivers, but still neither device will detect to be paired. Not sure where to go from here really.

    XoticPC has 12,288MB (12GB) DDR3 1333MHz Dual Channel Memory (3x4GB) ( + $415 )
    Likewise does Gentech - 12GB PC3-1333Mhz DDR3 (4GB x 3) : $399

These prices are for the i7 model.
I would have to say 12GB is overload, even if you were doing heavy gaming I still think you don't need that much. 8GB would still not even be used to it's full capacity but would be the most reasonable and practical option which is - 8,192MB (8GB) DDR3 1333MHz Dual Channel Memory (2x2GB, 1X4GB) ( + $179 ) through Xotic once again.

Ok, found the workaround to the bluetooth issue. You have to turn the bluetooth off via the button before you shut down windows, when you reboot with it turned off wait for the bluetooth icon to appear in your system tray, then press the bluetooth button, go into the 'My bluetooth' folder on the desktop and then press 'search for devices' button and then it detects everything just fine. Kind of annoying, but i got this info from a motorola headset website, so i guess its common with their bt radios. Easy to deal with tho, finally... everything installed... now to load up some games!

No, no backlit keyboard.. which frankly you dont need. this thing looks like a disco with every other light going when you play music. I just turned all the extra lighting off. Tried the turbo and fan today, not much of a huge boost with turbo, but noticable.. the fan takes about 15 seconds to ramp up to full speed, and you can hear it, but its not annoying. When the extra fan juice is not on, this laptop is as silent as the asus g73jh. I know, i've had both heheh

So... I've been looking at this one. If you spec it the same as the Asus G73jh (add 2 GB RAM and bump the HD's to 500GB/7200 RPM) it's is a 1" smaller screen, worse viewing angle and louder for +$200. Is that about the height and weight of it?

You forgot to add you can't upgrade graphic drivers without something horrible happening.
It's a shame you can only upgrade with "official" ASUS released drivers.

I haven't played much but here are the games and settings so far:

Borderlands 1920x1080 all high endabled except Ambient occlusion and flares with 4x AF -- seems to be constant 60fps

Left 4 Dead 2 1920x1080 all highest settings, 4x AF and AA, vsync and seems smooth 60fps so far.

Battlefield bad company 2 1920x1080 all high medium shadows 1AA 4AF vsync and it seems to run at 60fps most of the time with drops on the big gunfights and smoke kills it for 1 second.

Team Fortress 2, all highest settings, 4x AA and AF, vsync, runs 60fps.

Demigod with 1920x1080 all high seems to run around 45fps or so.

    Sup guys,
Do you know if Xotic takes PayPal for international orders?

I really like this notebook, and I want to buy in the next few months (I'm saving the money), but I won't find it in my country (Chile), so the only option is to buy it on Xotic.
