Hey guys bought an MSI gx640 a few months ago and I've been having this same problem over and over. My screen will either just go black an stay on or it will go gray with vertical lines. I believe it is a driver issue, but I'm pretty computer illiterate when it comes to things like this. I just wanted a good comp to play some awesome games on, so it gets really annoying when playing online or having to constantly save. Thanks for any help.

sounds like a hardware issue more than a software issue to be honest, your video card might be dying =(

    any thoughts ppl?

Thanks for the reply. I'm really clueless about stuff like this.. Hopefully someone can give me some answers. Also, it's not like it only happens when I'm running games, it will just happen randomly. I don't think it's overheating or anything, but I don't really know.

I got that everytime I overclocked my GX640 to much(After about 30mins of gaming). Then I went back down one and it never came back. (My clocks are stable at 860/1080 now)

Did you overclock your GX640 any or is it still on stock settings?

Yeah I did before, but its back at stock settings. I did have it on a lower fan speed for some reason though, so hopefully changing that back might help. If it does it again I have no idea what to do.

It says on the dl site that I should update my vbios before i install the driver and I have no idea how to do that. I read something about "flashing" the vbios, but read it was risky especially if I don't really know what I doing.

I just got my MSI GX640 today and I'm having the same problem. It seems to happen when I leave my computer alone and let it go into sleep mode. Whenever I try to pull it out of sleep mode, I get the vertical dark gray and green bars. I can activate the buttons at the top of the keyboard and they respond by lighting up, but nothing changes on the screen. I have to manually shut down and restart each time this happens.

I'm going to disable it from automatically going into sleep, but that seems really annoying. Any other advice?

I did update the ATI driver as g4m3rl33t suggested but it's still happening.

I restarted my computer after the vbios update, but how else am I supposed to know it has been updated. I saw something about looking up the Hardware ID, but it number still looks to be the same. nvm I look in the graphics harde ware in the information center and it seems to be updated.
