Hey guys so I want to buy the msi gt80 with the sli gtx 980m, the version im looking at has a 5700hq i7 cpu, is that good enough for the sli gtx980m in gaming. Also how well do you think it will perform in a 40 inch 4k tv?

I was also interested in the upcoming sager laptops with the sli 980m's and the desktop cpu, but will it be around the same price? Is it worth the wait, if performance will be around the same, then I'd rather buy the msi gt80 now instead of waiting?I have about $3000 to spend on a gaming laptop, you guys have anyother suggestions for that price point?

980M SLI is the best current option for 4k, it should manage pretty well, the 5700HQ should cope just fine, especially at 4k where the GPUs are going to be the bottleneck.

Hello, the 5700HQ is a good processor, you shouldn't see any bottlenecks from the CPU on the GPU's. the performance would be close, but the Sager would have the desktop processor as you mentioned so a little more powerful which could be nice if you are doing a lot of processor intensive tasks. You could look at the GT80 with the 5950HQ which would be a little closer to the Sager desktop CPU performance.

You might also check out the ones with the 6820HK processors as they can be overclocked if you are worried about the CPU performance. The GT80's keyboard will be nicer than what the sager comes with, but it will come down to personal preference. While the sager will have a slightly smaller screen, i believe they will weigh fairly close, the sager likely a little lighter.

For 4k, you can check here for benchmarks at 4k res with SLI GTX980m's http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphic-Cards.13849.0.html

I really like the GT80's so if you don't mind the size of it, i'd say you're looking at a good option :)

Yeah I like to move around my house, and I would like to be able to plug the laptop into a tv and play from there. The only other thing I might use the laptop for is coding, but I don't think its too cpu intensive.

Yeah its look really nice, I own an older msi gx740 and I compared the specifications and the gt80 is a bit bigger with the 18" screen instead of the 17" on my older msi, but still I don't think the size will be an issue :D.
I was also leaning more towards MSI since my last laptop was also msi and its still works great today, although the screen does look a little dated lol.
You think this laptop will able to run Fallout 4 and maybe Mass Effect andromeda at the highest settings when it comes out? My only concern is the keyboard being toward the front of the laptop, is that something you get used to after using?

No way to tell for future releases, but Fallout 4 should be just fine. The keyboard at the front is for use at a desk, it's not a use on your lap machine (none of the SLI machines are).

Ya the keyboard at the front is not meant for lap use. It puts the keys to close to your body, but when you buy a machine like this i don't think that's what you are going for.

I agree, MSI's are great computers, I like the extra warranty that you get with them, and some of the little aesthetic features that you might not get on a Sager, as they are more base hardware. However, the base can be nice as well as they are a solid base to build upon.

Both would be a good choice, I just think when going for a full desktop replacement there's not much that beats the GT80 right now. I really like the easy to access hardware bay above the keyboard, and the mech keyboard in general.

4K is always kinda iffy, especially with SLI as there are a couple factors. It will matter if the game can support SLI, can support 4K and if the stars align, you get a high enough frame rate with the given settings. However this machine is about as well setup as you can get right now to support it on the laptop side. Only time will tell :)
