Hi everyone, im considering buying an msi gt80 titan with the sli gtx980m's, but I have several questions and I thought that maybe some of yall may have one and will be able to help me.

First is how usable is it, if at all on your lap, is it something you could get used too since the keyboard is at the front of the laptop? I love siting on a couch and using my laptop on my lap is it something you could do with this laptop?

My other question was about fan noise and temperatures, I understand that because its sli it will get hotter, but how much hotter? Also fan noise doesn't bother me too much since I mostly be gaming with headphones on, but still how loud are the fans?

    Thanks Everyone

The GT80 is a great PC but not really meant for lap use. I'm sure you could use it on your lap, but it's bulky and cumbersome and for most that kind of eliminates it for lap use. If you've ever used a bigger 17" you might have a good idea of it would be something that you would still be able to do.

For the sound and heat, it's pretty good still since it does have the bigger chassis. Check out our full review of the 263, at 10:50 the decibel and flir test start so you can see the heat and sound during the firestrike benchmark.

You wouldn't want to use any of the gaming notebook on your lap because they are generally bulky and can get burdensome eventually, not to also mention about the risk of damaging it when it falls/trips by accident.
The best laptop to use on the lap should be the GS30 which is the lightest/coolest.

Not very. It's big, it's heavy, and it can get fairly warm. I suppose it depends on how robust your lap is. :vbtongue: A pad might help; whether a large enough cooling pad or even a makeshift tray.

How much hotter than...? It will get fairly hot while gaming or putting a lot of load on it. The fans can get loud, but probably not loud enough to bother you while using headphones. Not aware of any dBA measurement to give you for a point of reference, though.
