Just recently bought this unit it shipped today :). Just looking for other owner's to get an idea on overclocks. Also has anyone overclocked the screen to 100hz? Point me in the right direction lol This is a huge upgrade for me coming from an alienware 15mx I bought back in 2010

Welcome, and congratulations on your new purchase.
If your screen comes in as 75Hz panel then you can increase to 75Hz, but not sure about 100Hz perhaps others who had done this can enlighten you.

Congrats! That machine is a beast! I'm not sure that it can get up to a 100Hz but i'm sure some more people will chime in. Let us know once you get it!

How about overclocking the monitor? *wink wink* :D

But honestly, for general gaming I haven't really used overclocking... only mostly for testing. My usual overclock of 100/100 is the sweet spot but I find myself rarely using it lately.

Will depend on the system, but my guess would be nope, only one or the other, before you hit a power limit (which may or not be already there). Overclocking starts consuming a lot more power than stock, very quickly.

The 100/100 overclock on the GPU worked great for 980m, but I am not sure how well it works on a stronger GPU like 980 which is, on stock, already faster than my 980m.

First things first, is to use it and try it as it is :) Overclocking is more of an advanced manner that requires testing, patience, and reality checks. We all want maximum performance, but sometimes this is not realistic with our systems. There will be power limits, thermal limits, possible component damage. Are you sure you want to risk it? So soon? :D

    ryzeki,

Would it be possible to use the Alienware 18's 330W power adapter on the Dragon Pro? Would it benefit from the extra wattage?

    Thanks

It will not benefit from it since the EC firmware limits power draw.

The system works fine in stock, but it can actually gain more performance without bumping up the voltage. Or maintain the same performance but with power reduction via undervolt. Of course, some may find this not worth the hassle.

Got a little scare today, after using the laptop without the charger, it seemed the gtx 980 didn't kick in the next time i used it with the charger got 20 fps on shadow of mordor benchmark , had to press the gpu button to restart with intel gpu and again to restart with the nvidia gpu and everything cane back to normal, anybody experienced this issue?

    Eladelh,

You probably need to go into your Nvidia control panel and set the 980 to be the default card instead of the intel card.

It sometimes can happen out of blue.
Does your battery have full charge or less charge?

Good to know Kevin. Also, to the previous question, would it hurt the dragon to use the Dell 330w adapter?

It won't provide benefit but it also won't hurt your system. :)

Have you updated the BIOS & EC firmware to the latest version?
You can find out your current version in the BIOS setup under System Information.

BIOS may contain fixes and enhancements.
EC may contain power & keyboard related fixes.
    So yes, they are important.

Quick question, when i play gpu intensive games my battery is losing power although im connected to the ac charger, my power plans are set for best performance and msi shift is set for sport mode, is that normal? I lose about 5% per hour or so

That's called power boost feature from MSI to provide extra performance during gameplay.

    Yes, it is.
Some users preferred this feature to be optional so they can either turn it on or off in the BIOS and it is currently WIP by MSI.
