If it is hard to find it in canada, in Brasil it is impossibe. No reseller at all. Maybe thats why i didnt knew this brand before.
Maybe i can be a reseller for then here -
THey replied to me pretty quick, but I still bought from rawpowerpc.com love'd em!
FYI, here's the email reply:
Thanks for your interest in MSI products.
Since this is a new branch in Canada, we haven’t brought in all Notebook models. Currently only S270 & L715 are available. They are both AMD platform. We are still in the process of fine-tuning our service department. It could take couple months before we phase in more modes. As we believe sales and service are equally important, we don’t want to risk our reputation by rushing in products. Sorry for the inconvenience. -
If someone find some others go for it shoot it here ! -
Well rawpower pc sells MSI notebooks in canada!
link: http://www.rawpowerpc.com/
They have all the main products from MSI. -
dutie tax from Custom....! -
Me too... that´s why i am going to buy a barebone in my trip and the parts separete, so i can save 400 dolars! Yes, it sucks!
But even with the tax it would still be chepaer than the notebooks here. -
Canadian members, this makes me wonder: what exactly are the tax rules when Canadians buy something like a laptop from the US? I'm just wondering for the sake of learning =)
-
we have no US taxes but the Customs will charge us Can taxes (around 15%)
+ customs will charge us around 20-30 %.....
at the end , lot of taxes ;o(( -
Yeah, I got mine on a trip so I evaded some of that. But in my defense, I'm sorry, its no longer a very cut and dry case, many could easily plead ignorance. The regulation and boarder official asks "did you buy anything big in the US?" Well no, I bought my laptop over the phone/internet in Canada. The laptop was build in Malasia, and improved in the States. On my weekend-trip I only spent some 100 dollars on food. So, NO, I did not procure anything big in the States on my trip. Only picked up a package! Anyways I heard that you can stuff sent to the nearest UPS or whatever office, in some town close to the boarder. If your only an hour anyway from the boarder like me, it could be a very viable option for online purchases that don't want to send stuff to Canada.

The 15% for sales tax is something you should pay any way. The issue is the warranty and if there are any other applicable taxes.
I did notice one thing odd, the integrated video is not the same under the S270 and the MS-1013. Any one know which is better?
I am requesting a quote from www.shoprbc.com to know how much it would cost me to get it through them, since it's local. I get the feeling to may be a lot higher but you don't know until you try.
The going rate for what I want is a bit more than $1500 US no shipping or Windows... may try Linux first any way :0P.
Here is the details:
MSI S270 (MS-1013) - White model
80GB 7200RPM HD
Intel Pro Wireless 2915a/b/g
Turion MT-40 2.2GHz 25W - 1MB Cache
2GB DDR 400 - 2 x 1GB
Got to find out if any duties is applicable to laptops/notebooks brought into Canada. With the low exchange rate I get the feeling their quote will be around $2300 since the exchange rates are always reflected a lot later. -
No dice, RB Computing cannot custome make this for me. They can sell me the S270 alone but not upgraded to my specs while giving me a credit for the parts.
MSI dont care about selling laptop in Canada....
