Does anyone have experience with any distro on a recent MSI model, in particular any comments on :

1- discrete GPU handling, with external monitors

2- hardware/driver issues, especially wifi, sound etc.

3- battery life compared to Windows

    thanks.

Why not just run it in a VM?

You could also test this yourself quite easily if you can't find an answer from either this community or the Linux community; run the distro of your choice from a USB drive, either as a live session or a full install. You can install it alongside Windows (might be ideal for thoroughly testing) too, and if you decide against it, you can remove it and reuse that partition/reallocate it to your Windows install.

Thankfully, Linux is very flexible. You'll have firsthand experience to go off of if you try it yourself, also (probably better than hoping someone with an identical, or even similar machine, can attest).

    Ubuntu on MSI GS30.
Handles the external/internal GPU config pretty well. Runs on both. Had to do some tweaking etc.

Actually earlier I did interested in and tried running linux on Windows Hyper-V but it was not a good experience with lots of crashes. (I am not interested in type-2 hypervisors such as Virtualbox due to performance and OpenGL issues)

What packages are you using to handle the GPU switch ? When you disable NVIDIA does HDMI port still working ?

I didn't have the machine that's why I asked. But now I ordered one yesterday so I will test next week.
