Hello all. This is my first post here, so excuse me if this is in the wrong section. I have very serious problems with my MSI gaming laptop which has essentially been rendered useless. I am at my wits end with this issue, it's been on going for months and months already with no solution in sight.
Basically, i purchased a MSI Z702BA-2291TH gaming notebook in Thailand when i was living there a few years ago. Google searches won't return anything on this model, i'm lead to believe it's a Chinese model and the last two digits "TH" indicating that it is a Thai SKU. But essentially it is just known as a "MSI Z70" I also had it customised with an SSD and windows 7 install (as they came reloaded with windows 10) so that means a recovery image flash is out of the question.
Here is a link to the cashed version of the product page (MSI china website appears to be offline)

Now, a few months ago, my partner was using my laptop, AMD catalyst asked if she wanted to update the drivers and software and she proceeded to update them. She thought she was doing the right thing, keeping my machine up to date. Oh, how she was wrong!![]()
No matter what i try, i can not get this thing to switch from the Intel onboard GPU to the Radeon R9 M290X (shows in device manager as a HD 8970M) I have done everything in the book, deleted the AMD drivers completely, reinstalled them from scratch. I've tried configuring the switchable graphics global setting and application settings, but no matter what i do, this thing refuses to switch to the dedicated graphics GPU![]()
I have read somewhere that it's advisable to NEVER update notebooks graphics drivers because of problems with switchable graphics, OK, no problem, try to roll back the drivers, No luck. Tried a system restore point from when the notebook was working well. No luck. Use the recovery image? Nope, because i had a custom SSD and Windows 7 install![]()
Because this laptop appears to be a Chinese model and the Chinese MSI website appears to be offline indefinitely, I can't find any display drivers for this notebook. So essentially, when my partner hit OK with driver update, she has turned this thing from a gaming beast, to a $2500 AUD word processor![]()
Is there anything at all, tricks, workarounds, advice, drivers etc. that can help me fix this issue? Even perhaps an older version of catalyst and the drivers from another MSI notebook with an on-board R9 M290X? I'm very desperate to get this thing working. Anything at all would be appreciated![]()
Thanks very much for reading. I hope to hear from somebody soon![]()
TL;DR:
Updated AMD display drivers by accident. Now switchable graphics doesn't work.

What driver version do you have? One solution would be to remove the current driver with Display Driver Uninstaller, install an older version and see if it works. Just repeat the above steps until you find the driver that works. I know it's a pain in the a.. but maybe it could work

Ok I checked the MSI Chinese page and it opened without problems. I'll reupload the AMD and Intel drivers for you in my MEGA account and post links. Remember to cleanup drivers with DDU

Should be both the Intel and AMD drivers. Let me know if they worked for you
