Hey guys, I was going to regester my MSI laptop to activate my warranty, but the slip inside my box told me my laptop would have 24 months of warranty from the date of purchase.
Is this a printing error, or did they decrease their warranty policy?

Hello,
Where did you purchase your notebook?
MSI provides 2 year warranty for European GX's and 3 year warranty for US models. -
Purchased it in Canada from NCIX.
-
Mine said the same thing, don't worry. You get 2 years without registering and 3 years with. Just don't waste any time registering the notebook, because you've got 30 days to do the online thing and mail your original receipt to California.
-
Wow thanks. I didn't know I had to mail an original reciept... i purchased online, would that be the invoice that came with it?
-
Don't worry about the original invoice thing. During the registration procedure (online) you'll be asked exactly where you purchased the laptop from, the address and the phone number. In case of doubt, MSI will call NCIX to verify the authenticity of the invoice.
Remember, stick two stamps on that envelope. -
Cool. Thanks a lot, you help out with a lot of my gx640 questions.
I may have to RMA my laptop though... aparantly my mic makes a static noise (everyone on skype has complained) and my right speaker is really rattely....
Do i have to pay for a defect that isn't my fault? -
As for the speakers, they're just as terrible on mine as well. The speakers themselves do not rattle, but the metallic grill on top of them does. Luckily, I didn't buy this particular laptop for its audio performance. I avoid using the onboard speakers as much as possible. Solution: decent headphones/headset.
Hopefully, you won't have to RMA the notebook just because of those two issues. Lurk the Asus forum and you'll see some real, deal-breaking issues: constant blue screens, BIOS not POSTing, peripherals that stop working. The GX640 doesn't have very good peripherals, but when you get top of the line performance at a budget price, it's to be expected. -
Hmmm... you do bring up good points.
Maybe I'll do it later down the line if something else comes out. The only other thing I have to complain about it is the keyboard, but we all know that's not great. The only thing I don't like is that my "E" key is a little loose, so sometimes it releases if i don't hold it down full pressure, conveniently enough, I use ESDF instead of WSAD to open more binding space around the arrows. -
I just regestered my lappy, but it did not ask me to mail in anything. It told me to temporarily allow popups, I thought I had, and then when the popup was blocked about printable info, I was unable to print it.
Should I be concerned? what kind of information is on that printable popup that I missed? -

Where is the address to mail the receipt? I registered online and wasn't prompted to mail the receipt anywhere. I also can't seem to find it on their site. Also, after registration I did not receive any confirmation via e-mail (and yes I checked my junk folder).

Been on hold with customer service MSI for FORTY FIVE MINUTES. I get an endless loop of a woman saying "thank you for calling MSI, all of our representitives are currently assisting other customers at this time", then she proceeds to smash the phone as hard as possible - It's the most annoying thing ever even if I have it on speaker. Awful service. A guy finally picks up, and I can hear him chewing (gum/eating lunch, perhaps?) for 5 minutes, then he puts me back into the start of the queue. This is x100 worst than Dell. Never EVER going back to this company. Sounds like it's a bunch of careless unprofessional bums operating the call center.
Edit: Gave up. Company is a worthless piece of trash that customer dodges. Total time wasted: 1h15m for nothing.
Edit 2: Called a buddy of mine, got the address since he has the GX640. I have 9 days left before the 30 day mark, so I'm going to have to xpress it there today. My friend told me it has to be there by the 30th day.

I don't think it has to be there by that date.
That doens't make sense. Anything of this sort is always "postmarked by" or if they don't get it by the 30 days, and recieve it afterwards, they look at the date it was postmarked. What did you send? I don't have a reciept so I'm sending the invoice (online purchase) that was inside the box as well as the one that i printed off the website. -
My registration information arrived and was processed by MSI in less than a week via snail mail. You'll be fine. Unless the plane transporting your envelope is hit by a North Korean missile. That's what's gonna happen if you don't double stamp. Every time you don't double stamp, somewhere in the world, an orphanage full of babies is eaten by flames.
Anyway, sorry for not supplying this info earlier, here's a copy of the email for all who might be interested. The pixelated part is just my personal info.

This nefarious warranty registration requirement is one thing I hate about MSI -- otherwise very happy. But this is a needless burden on the consumer for no good reason. I'm not even sure it's legal in the USA, as generally manufacturer's cannot require registration to "activate" a warranty (at least as I understand it - I'm not a lawyer).
They should drop the "register within 30-days" requirement if they want to grow market share (and I think they do).
Trust your customers, MSI, and you will earn their loyalty by doing so. -
If it wasn't for these informtative forums, I would of had my warranty coverage slashed by 33% and then been SOL on year #3. -
-
And yes it is a gigantic waste of money because I never received any e-mails telling me to send the receipt (even checked my junk folders daily), so it's their fault for having a faulty registration system. Hell, half the people I see on MSI boards or talk to IRL have no idea that you have to mail the receipt.
It's like they're banking on the customer not finding out so they can save money. -
