Hello! I'm thinking of buying an MSI GT70 notebook later this summer, and I was just wondering how good the support was. I don't really mind having to pay for shipping, but I need to know if MSI's support is good, bad, or fair.

I need to know this because if not then I would probably look into buying NCIX's Care service for my laptop when I bought it, and that would cost me an extra 200$. I was wondering if I would need it.

    Thank you.

I can tell you my personal experience with MSI has been a good one, but I have seen customer service complaints with all manufacturers. I have RMA'ed and exercised my warranty with MSI twice, and on both occasions this went without a hitch. I see you are considering a purchase from NCIX, a warehousing big-box E-tailer (I assume you are a Canadian purchaser), and I was wondering if you have considered purchasing from a U.S. authorized MSI custom reseller? I am uncertain of precisely what Duty or Taxes you may encounter (selling globally, the resellers will know), but it's always good to investigate your options.

With a reseller, not only do you have customization options, but also a more personal level of service and care...... and they can even assist you when dealing with the manufacturer directly. With my latest notebook, right after I received it I discovered a bad A-Data mem stick module. I called my reseller, who instructed me to return it with no real questions asked...... no RMA to the manufacturer involved. I paid 'Ground' shipping to return it, and 1-1/2 week later it was returned (Two-Day Air) with 32GB of Super Talent memory. Now I cannot guarantee everyone will receive this level of exceptional service, but I can tell you it's highly unlikely you will ever see this from E-tailers like NCIX, Newegg, Best Buy, etc. Again, I attribute my good fortune to the personal level of service, care, and rapport, usually only found with custom building resellers. To me, the added assurance and peace of mind they provide, makes them worth it. Try giving one of them a call...... can't hurt! Their phone numbers and other contact info, can be found HERE! Also, don't get caught-up in the gimmick pricing ads of some...... they all are competitive, and they all have 'PRICE-MATCH' policies.

    :)

I haven't had an experience with RMA, just calling for tech support but their support is located in the US and everyone I've called has seemed legitimately wanting to help me and quite knowledgeable and friendly. I also haven't had any problems with long wait times.

I was just going to buy it from NCIX, because it would be cheaper for me (Their store is in the same town) and that me and my friends could have a party when I go get it... complicated I know.

I am considering buying it from either NCIX, XopticPC, or GentechPC. I'm leaning more towards NCIX considering that they have few stores in Canada and it's easier to just drop off my computer with them. But I am considering buying from an online retailer, but I'm not sure how long it's going to take to ship it to me, especially since I need it before school starts (I'll have the money approx. 7 weeks from now, and school starts In September).

    Well, I didn't like NCIX.

My MSi laptop had to be RMA, because the fan was emitting a weird cricket sound. I did a RMA request, it took about two days for them to give me a RMA #, and I had to pay for shipping (it cost 100$ from Quebec to BC because they said I had 7 days for my package to arrive there, and I had lost a day to prepare it, so I had to pay for express shipping). When the laptop arrived at their RMA center, they took 4 days to check it (they say it can take up to 16 days, which I think is stupid considering the customer has to pay for shipping under 7 days, but they can take up to 16 days to confirm there's a problem). I asked for them to check the replacement unit before sending it to me, but they refused.

The tech guy I talked to was helpful. My replacement unit arrive some time ago and it was alright. The whole process took about two weeks and a half.

There's worst I guess, but next time I'll go with Amazon.
