    Hey all,

I did some digging and I found a Canadian vendor that has several different models of Skylake MSI laptops listed for sale. Doesn't say they're in stock, but they have actual model numbers and prices with them. Prices are in Canadian dollars, with the exchange rate being about $1.33 CAD to 1 USD. In other words, divide by 1.33 to get an approximate US price.

Bonus: Even a price or two for the 6820HK based GT72!

I don't know anything about this vendor or its reliability. I thought I'd share for info on specific configs and prices. Start saving your pennies! :D

    http://www.cendirect.com/main_en/find_simple.php?rNav=2&rVendor=MSI (Micro Star)&rSfr=0&rSto=100000&rInStk=A&rSby=Vendor,Descrip

I've seen similar prices by googling for GT72S, eg http://www.pcconnection.com/product...ro-g-220-skylake-gtx980/gt72sdmpg220/30595682

and from there, you start to notice different model names like MSI GT72S DOMINATOR PRO G-220.

If you search under the new model name you'll find more vendor / price lists, eg, http://www.kernelsoftware.com/products/catalog/msi.html

    GT72SDMG037 GT72S DOMINATOR G-037 SKYLAKE GTX970 New 14.83 $2,130.40 $2,130.40 Email
    GT72SDMPG219 GT72S DOMINATOR PRO G-219 SKYLAKE GTX980 New 14.83 $2,466.93 $2,466.93 Email
    GT72SDMPG220 GT72S DOMINATOR PRO G-220 SKYLAKE GTX980 New 14.83 $2,915.64 $2,915.64 Em

Also, I found some HK models, too. I didn't know there would be those, so I thought maybe it was a mistake or something. Nice to see confirmation.

Keep in mind that those are Canadian prices. Doing the conversion has them in line with current products.

Those prices have now disappeared from some of those sites. They may have jumped the gun a bit, but at least we snagged the info before it got pulled.

Come on, MSI. Is it really going to kill you at this point to release more specific model info and pricing?

Gotta love how Intel drags this out. I miss the days when a product launch was actually a launch.

You can already order the new skylake fitted laptops from origin so i don't expect the embargo to last very long

There are a lot of rumors pointing for this month's release for most products so I assume we will find out in a rather short time.

There are some particular modesl which we have zero info yet though... but maybe they are preparing them or something. I guess we will see the first batch incoming pretty soon.

I am VERY hopeful that 6820HK turns out to be unlocked even if I sound very pessimistic about it :)

My question is how much we'll be able to actually overclock with it, due to the thermal limits of being in a laptop.

At the moment, I'm seeing it as turbo mode on crack. I'd love to see it be more than that. I'm also wondering how much of a premium there will be over the 6700HQ.

To be honest, 4Ghz should be easily attainable with bit laptops like GT72 and GT80. Skylake is the stronger performer out of the power efficient broadwell. Both of those are better than haswell at temps and efficiency, and we could already run haswell at 4Ghz with proper tweaking.

But I do hope the CPU can maintain its speed. Otherwise it will be a sidegrade instead of an upgrade for broadwell/haswell for laptops.

As long as the HK version is unlocked, it will be worth it. Otherwise you will run into the TDP wall easily, as these new skylake CPUs have a lower TDP.

Maybe the best skylake CPU for budget gaming will be that core i5 6640 or something, the one with 4 cores and no hyper threading. It should easily run at max speed at all times due to lower power requirement of no Hyper Threading. I bet that cpu will become the popular model for lower end GS series.

The Skylake GT72 with a 970m and no ssd looks to be over $200 CAD more than its Broadwell counterpart. I hope that pricing is wrong, else I might just end up getting a Broadwell GT72.

I was almost ready to order one of MSI or Gigabyte laptops (up to $2200 US) and now have to wait for at least a few weeks. Checking this and a few related threads a few times per day :)

The TDP is the same due to lack of on board voltage regulators.

Skylake lacks voltage regulators compared to borad/haswell? so that difference is the 2 watts from 47 to 45w TDP?

Yes it's now off chip like the old days. The power is still used but off chip.

Oh I see, interesting, that makes sense for the slightly reduced TDP, which ends up being the same.

It also explains why it's a bit cooler on the cpu itself per mhz.
