Are you happy with your MSI laptop?

I've had my laptop for 1 year and 1 month. It's worked extremely well!
I've only had one problem...
Occasionally when I close my lid the LCD doesn't turn off. I'm not sure why, but it's annoying because I have the computer stand by automatically. I have a feeling it has something to do with the sensor, but am not sure.
The problem doesn't happen often, and goes away on its own.
Otherwise my 1022 has been a rock! I love it! -
Why is there 200+ views to this thread and only 3 people actually answered the poll? I would like to know how reliable MSI is. But, 3 is not really a reasonable number to place my trust in. I wish some more owners would speak up.

I just wish they released updated bios more often and they made them easier to find.
Other than that all of my broblems have been os related. -
I'm very happy with mine. -
I have had my S262 White for more than a year, it works perfectly and I LOVE it! Will buy my next notebook from MSI for sure.

Hey all...
My wife bought me an Averatec 2150 which is in reality an MS-1013. I liked it so much that I gave it to her and bought an S271-Black, which I also really like. For the price you can't purchase a better built 12.1 in lappy!

I had a T41 for 3 years then I bought the 1029. In comparison, the quality of the 1029 wasn't even close to the thinkpad. I found the keyboard to have way to much flex. Now I have a T60 widescreen and I probably won't buy another MSI again.

if this is going to be your first laptop i would go to as many stores as you can and see them for yourself in person. personally i would recommend a Thinkpad.

I have gone to some stores, but all I found was HP, Sony, Toshiba, and Acer. I wanted to come and look at some less well known brands such as MSI, Compal, Asus, etc. -
Nothing more MSI for our family. A very bad experience with the MSI 1029/M635 and MSI warranty support is enough for one lifetime. Saving a buck to buy junk that is inadequately supported isn't going to give one good value for the money spent! Our time has value too and wasting countless hours on the $2000.00+ CDN purchase with 4 returns to MSI in the first 8 months and 4 troubleshooting sessions/3 reinstalls due to a now documented MSI glitch is not good value. You may have no problems, but it is certainly a gamble with MSI.
See my posts in other threads for more details -
This is my first experience with Crystal Collection M677 series MSI notebook. I am totally satisfied with MSI notebook, no any problem...

I have a MSI 1057 and it's considerably good and I'll rate it 8/10.. probably because i still don't have any major problems that i have to contact MSI itself.... well overall it's fine but like most people said the keyboard is a lil too flexible and my integrated wireless network card seems to be a little weak in receiving signal... anything other than these are fine...
-
i did the same wondering if i should buy the 17" msi i found for $1299aud or not and stick to the smaller and couple hundred more expencive Asus i have been eyeing for a while and i wish to god i had known more abou laptops before i brought my optima, yes it has been good and the tech was awesome when the hdd packed it in for the first time, but its slow as hell because it's an amd (and thats my fault) and it's killing a second hard drive, this one has bad sectors. and what i really need is help deciding between the two, although knowing me i will not want to wait up to ten days for the MSI to be delivered so will prolly go the Asus i have been drooling over.
P.S. never going back to a desktop again and if you want a notebook that will sand up to coke being spilled on it get an optima this babies still going months later, it has sticky keys though.
hmm that puts me off weak wireless signal/ reciever wonder if the VR700 is like it -
I own an MSI 1034. Very flimsy construction. Generic, cheap parts that are hard to get drivers for outside of windows. Some issues (repeating keys for some odd reason). Hard drive seems to be failing WAY ahead of schedule. Just cheap, shoddy construction all around.
Additionally, I had a structural defect at purchase. Getting MSI to honor my warrantee was neaqrly impossible. They even refused to SELL me the plastic part that needed replacing so I could fix it myself after they told me there was no way they would fix the laptop even if I paid them. Thankfully, a friendly retailer who I was not a customer of was able to slip my box in under an RMA, otherwise my MSI would be no more than a paperweight.
I will not buy MSI products again. ASUS is comparable in price and function and vastly superior in quality. -
I voted yes... but have regrets
Good notebook, I got the 1029. Worked well but wasn't very strong or sturdy.
I upgraded to a macbook -
Poorly constructed $2100 paperweight for me.
Wanted something to download pics & vids on my 1st cruise year ago. Went
techie nuts (as usual) bought MS-1036 17", low power, fastest on planet...etc. COOOOL.
Well dont bang it at power connection point when plugged in!!!!!!!!!!!
(save money - throw it away at this point.)
Builder: citrus micro - Story: LOOOONG - Point: spent $320+ on repair, lasted a week, Citrus reply- have your battery checked???? system wont work without battery??????
Ressurected it lately (reason for this post) to try repair myself.
1: power connection not part of mobo
??? why 300$+ for mobo replacement????? - gee thanks Citrus Micro(NOT!)
2: want external charger for BTY-L71 battery - cant cross reference this battery as MSI laptops not listed at any sale sites (connection must! be correct) - for further testing
3: Found a site to purchase power connection circuit board (special order, $36 plus shipping) - do I keep spending money or give up?????
4: now its a $2500 paperweight

Hi to all owners, I bought an LG KS-2ATNV3 (K1 model) which turned out was made by MSI. LG's Support in my country, Denmark, could be better but its not as bad as many other companies. As it turns out the support is another company hired to do support for LG, and they dont have my model so as of now im the one who knows most about this.
I have had trouble finding an extra battery with higher capacity than the standard one and after alot of research on the net to various, german and english as well as chinese sites i have come up with that these MSI models use the same standard battery as mine and therefore I should be able to use their high capacity battery :
M520,L710,L715,L725,L720,L730,L735
MS-1016/1035/1036/1047/171164/171544
MSI Pre-configured:
L720/L725/L715
Battery model/part numbers I found :
BTY-L71
S91-0300140-W38
GBM-BMS080AAA00
1049020050
957-1016T-006
956-1016T-006
BBC/MS/9571016T006
Voltage: 10.8 v
Capacity: 7200 mAh
Unfortunately there is some confusion on the net as if the battery is a 6600mAh or real 7200mAh, so you will need to check that with the dealer
I hope this can be some help to all of you
With kind regards

No, I am not happy with my MSI 1013 laptop.
Quality is simply terrible. Over time, some wires get worn out by rubbing against metal edges inside the computer.
Examples:
1) Keyboard ribbon cable has a spot at the bottom which wore out and would randomly start entering in keys when it shorted out (fixed by wrapping cable with masking tape)
2) My default email application keeps launching because another cable is shorting out (again, fixed with masking tape)
3) Speakers only work when the screen is tilted at 80 or 130 degrees (cant fix this one)
At the time I bought this it was a steal and I have been happy for over a year. However now this machine is starting to show its age. -
i guess beyond the several problem that are occurring (like how I'm on my way to a service shop right now), my biggest complaint is MSI making cheap-feeling comps.... when i got my 12 inch and well it didn't feel like one of those tiny sony's... but it didn't cost as much either... overall i'm rather satisfied.

I am very happy with my MS-1039. It has performed beautifully since I purchased it, going on two years ago. I think the build quality is superb and the components are not skimped on.
My only issue was the hinges on the 1039. As some of you may know, MSI tightened them too much at the factory and they eventually crack. It's nothing major, and you can send your notebook in to be repaired if you would like (free of charge).
If you have any questions about an MSI system, I recommend contacting RKComputers ( http://www.rkcomputer.net/rkcnotebooks/) The owner is great to talk to. He will answer your question to the best of his knowledge and if he doesn't know the answer, he has no hesitation to contact MSI for you and call you back. This is really a great guy. He is also a regular visitor on these forums. Username: Noclue4uhere. I'm sure he wouldn't mind if you PM him, but his website offers a live chat feature that may get you quicker results.
Anyways, I am throughly happy with the 1039. I would recommend a MSI system to anyone!
