    Hi all,
I'm really interested in this latop (from rb computing in Canada)
but I've read 100s of posts of issues (freezing, crashing etc) with the higher clocked MSI S270s ie. MT-37+. Am I going to have any issues with this one? Or, am I ok because its a pre-configured MSI system and its *probably* been tested by MSI? Does it depend on who I get it from???

Also, I like linux on my laptops -- but i don't necessarily want to have the act of installing linux turn into a hobby. :D ie. will it just work? -- in 32-bit mode for now.

if you get the S270 (preconfig), those are usually pretty solid. there are at least a few sites that i've seen that list pretty much all the linux drivers and issues you'll hit with the S270.

i run an MT-40 on my 1013 (S270) model and haven't had any problems for the past year.

Well I decided to go for it. I eventually learned to stop doing research. If you research any laptop long enough, you find complaints about everything.
I'm picking it up today..... I'll keep everyone posted on the trainwreck, if any. :)

very true. i think you'll find the keyboard may be a bit flexy, but you'll get used to it. the screen is great, it's light, it's powerful, it's 64-bit, and it's a pain in the butt to take it apart. :)

Hey coffeeshark, how is the battery life on that 1013? I?m starting to think that I might be fine with the AMD, even though I would like nothing more than the 260 centrino?
Can u gimme the battery life for when u just browse or word process, and also when u?r doin more strenuous activities, ie: games? also if we couldget a list of the titles of games this machine can play, that would be great. And if anyone can do a quick comparison for each game in regards to the 1012 centrino. Just to clarify: the 1013 can have the ATI x200 whereas the 260 can only have the crappy 900intel?

I think i remember reading that the battery life was only superior in centrinos under lightly loaded conditons such as viewing a MS Word document. But when you did anything strenuous such as play a gaming, the battery life was nearly identical between the two.

...the order is late... so I'm still waiting for my s270. :(

battery life is about 3 hours for browsing around, basic stuff. More like 2:30 when really getting busy, watching DVDs, etc.

the 1013 is the x200, yeah. Not sure what this can play, really, i don't use it as a gamer.

WOW... thats a big bummer to hear Coffeeshark... 3 hours... really??? I loved the 1013/1012 cuz it was a small screen with a big 8 cell battery, the 700M from Dell is the same config albiet an older Centrino 855 chipset, bit it pumps out 5 hours on the 8 cell no problem. Heck, I had a 14 inch Toshiba on a 6 cell that ran for 3 hours. If what you say is standard for this laptop, then I may just have to look elsewhere.
Can anyone with the 1012 post their battery experience? PLease tell me its better than 3 hours!

the 1012 is over 3 hours, but nowhere near 5 hours if that's what you're looking for. If I remember correctly it was between 3:30 and 4:00.
