It is known that MSI 260 subnotebooks suffer from a loud fan problem.
It is claimed on a German forum that it is now solved:

Sorry, it's in German, and I don't have this notebook myself in order to have personal interest to follow the details and post them here. So, try to ask there in English or use on-line translation.

The trick is that the fan is made to start at 60° instead of 40°.
The "firmware" is developed by MSI after repeated complains of the customers and probabyl will be included into the next bios update.
MSI Taiwan has proven to be very open to the reasonable customers suggestions (unlike SONY, who had a similar problem with the loud fans of S-series).
The people who have installed and tested this "firmware" are excited and happy with it! -
Could someone please make an english guide for this procedure, since my german is not that good.I'm seriously considering buying this laptop, as it looks really nice, but the fan noise is a real turn off...

Those interested could just try to ask in English at the corresponding forum.
The procedure is a firmware update which is similar to bios flash.
You have to download file 1012v52.zip and make bootable CD.
The procedure of bios flash is described here
I was not entering into greater details because I don't have the laptop myself.
You do it at your own risk! -
MSI's LiveUpdate software should download the firmware if released.
If you don't have LiveUpdate installed, you can grab it here (S260 only) http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/download/dld/spt_dld_detail.php?UID=607&kind=11
