Hi! I'm I bit of a trouble here. I have a MSI 1722 which came pre-installed with Vista Home Premium. I don't have the CD that the guy used to install the OS and now something wrong with my laptop.

It has 2 partitions, C:OS and D :Data. I tried to make a 40GB partition from drive D: using diskpart. It was successful so I tried to install a x64 Vista to whats the diff from an x86. It didn't work so I booted the x86 again and went to the diskmanage and made the new partition active. That's when all hell broke loose T_T.

When I restarted, It said the the BOOTMGR is missing. What I did was to remove the new partition using the x64 cd. Now Im stuck on a screen that says "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key"

    Any help?

Yeah tried that but didn't work. I fixed it somehow, I used the x64 cd to repair it and it worked. I dunno how but it worked. Now I'm afraid to reformat my notebook to run x64 coz the guy said it was installed using an MSI CD. T_T

Well im not sure, on your msi do you have all OEM drivers on the hard disk?, might be something to do with drivers prehaps, but i doubt, i dont think there should be any problem reformatting though.

I dunno. It's was a barebone and I asked the guy to build it for me. So he installed the OS but never gave me a copy. There's a program here "MSI burn recovery" but when I try to burn it won't let me.

I think you should try and contact the guy who built your system and get a copy of the recovery disks and if not then you could try to contact MSI and see what they say. But to the best of my knowledge, barebones don't usually come with an OS so a copy of the recovery disks would not be included with the barebone. So my guess is that the MSI disk that the guy used was his personal copy and did not make a copy for you. The reason why you cannot burn the recovery disk is because your hard drive does not have the recovery partition needed to make the disks because the notebook is a barebone.

There was a software in my notebook it was "Burn MSI recovery" but when I try it, it always says failed to make a copy even if I put in a blank dvd.

Yes the software is there but the recovery partition on the hard drive is not. The recovery partition is a reserved section of the hard drive formated by the manufacturer(MSI) that is used to store the recovery image files. The reason why you do not have the recovery partition is because yours is a barebone which does not come with a hard drive formated by MSI. You need to have the recovery partition in order to burn the disk. The "Burn MSI recovery" is really just an application that copies the recovery partition to the DVD, it fails in your case because there is no such partition on your hard drive.

Try to contact MSI and ask them for a recovery DVD!
Make sure you have the MS Windows license/Key and you okay to recover from the recovery DVD.
