So I found out that the gx6200 comes with 32 bit windows, but I was hoping to get it with 64 bit windows. Anyone know if this is possible? I was hoping to be able to use a 32 bit OEM key to unlock the 64 bit version, but the retailer told me that the authentication is done via remote server ??

I just wanted to get a broader opinion if this is possible, thanks :)

32 bit keys will work for 64 bit as long as it is the same version ie (Home Premium, Ultimate, Basic ect) i have switched the keys on my old g1sn-x1 that i have ran 32 and 64 with the same key.

Do you know what's the best way to go about obtaining a 64 bit CD? I hear that you cannot get one directly from microsoft :(

I ended up downloading an retail version from a torrent site and it has worked great with OEM keys...I haven't pirated anything mind you, just used it to clean install the license shipped with my laptop.

Yeah, I'm iffy on that, mostly because of the obvious potential for the version to be... well, :(

What he means is that there may have been trojans and other undesireable things inserted into the image, that M$ will still think that it's entirely legit yet be detrimental for you.

Also that is still technically piracy... or at least in most countries...

Just make sure the torrent says it's the OEM retail version of vista 64. I had to grab a copy myself and it works perfectly fine. You're using your key(don't use any keys that come with the file and don't use the activation cracks just burn the iso) so it doesn't matter if it has sp1 integration and all that because you can just update using the windows update thing. The only thing I had to do after putting my key for 32 bit in was call the number and follow the automated process to activate my 64 bit version using my OEM key.

if you want to make sure that you have the same DVD from microsoft then try to get the file like this :
    en_windows_vista_with_service_pack_1_x64_dvd_x14-29595.iso
    SHA1: BDADC46A263A7BF67EB38609770E4FDBD05247CB

because sometimes they change things in most of the files in the torrent sites.

don't forget to check the SHA1 key for the file using any free checking tool.
