Is that the power on the left side or the 3.5 mm for a headset?

In the manual of the GE76 I read "optimus". Can this be disabled for higher fps like with razer via software or mux switch?

I would have preferred the Tiger Lake CPU's instead of comet lake.

The GE76 redesign is pretty, but I am hating MSI's trend of removing the dedicated touchpad buttons. I won't buy a laptop that doesn't have them.

Jaarods tech showed it off in a video. It looks like you can toggle it in software and restart. I'll edit the link in later if you want.

Is there a difference between the msi 3080 8 gb and 16gb variants beyond ram? I'm trying to find a 150w card.

Not sure, it dosent list if its max q or not.

Gonna slip a correction here. The ones listed on the gentech PC site say max P.

Still curious on the TDP's though.

    I hope they arnt.

Yea, the big pain in the butt is usually the laptop makers themselves usually dont list max Q or P.....its usually the resellers.

In this preview they say the 3080 in the GE76 is max P 150W (compared to the imo more modern Strix Scar 17 which is 115W + 15W max boost). Wish MSI had a QHD option.

    O
If its 150w that's good for me. TBH 1080p is good enough for me on the go. I tend to tune my laptop to be quieter while I am out.

I might hold out for the rocket lake refresh which hopefully should have a 2k screen for us.

    https://storage-asset.msi.com/global/picture/image/feature/nb/GE76-RTX30/gpu-ge76.png

And from the heatsink design this will not be able to to sustain around 100W+ from 8 core cpu like i9 10980 or i7 10870. What is funny new ge76 has slower i7 8 core cpu than ge75 10sgs. ( ge75 has i7 10875h which is faster than 10870 by a margin of 100MHz)

Also look that both cpu heatsinks share some thermals with gpu. So at max full load cpu temps will be high if you want to sustain all core boost

Yea, that is a bit concerning. Well, it's an artist rendition so I wouldn't count on accuracy....and I'm waiting on teardowns and reviews anyways before I make my move. (Also the supposed tiger/rocket lake refresh in march)

Probably have to wait until the industry NDA ends on the 26th.

    Terrible year for laptops.

I'm going to wait until May/June to see what settles as the leader.

Right now the Strix Scar 17 is on top.

Some of the Intel 3080's barely keep up with high end 2080 supers. (aorus)

Might end up waiting for the intel refresh sometime next year.

Why do you say its a terrible year for laptops? I'm mad that MSI didn't make a titan 3080 and they didn't use AMD CPUs this year.

The cpu gains are enough to justify an upgrade. Not to mention rtx 3000 series.

Personally the AMD adoption is HUGE! I'm supporting the move as intel as been holding things back for way too long.

Gonna have to see how those tripod heatsinks work out for them.

They dropped the heatpipes but supposedly doubled the thickness.
