"please set up the program to be opened" :

This is the function of the program 1 button, you must setup the program you wish this to launch.

"The Eco button does work though"

What O/S do you have installed? ECO will not function with XP, only vista x32 and x64.

Oh i thought P stood for Performance Mode or something :D Thanks a lot for clarifying that.

By the way guys, I discovered that if you press on the right of the Eco button, you activate the turbo mode! I guess the pressure point is still there but they didn't include the key symbol.

    PD: I'm running Vista 64

lol I know, I'm not sure whats the performance increase. I'll run 3dMark 05 with the turbo on and off to see what happens

    Edit:

Ok so here we go. I used the free version of 3DMark05 (didnt let me change the test settings). This is what I got:

P1 is an user-configured button just like the buttons on ASUS EEE 1000H, or Sony laptop, you can customize it to launch any program of your choice. Overclock is permanent in the BIOS. But the Turbo button is On/Off by decision and can be used on-the-fly.

I think you control it in bios, and then you hit turbo mem key :). Try out CPU-Z and tell us what it says if possible.
    20% OC + P9500 = nearly X9100 on stock with different FSB/Multipliers

NVM, I see you are running at 2.63ghz with turbo on :). Very nice

I believe there is no reference of what the touch buttons do in the manual.... Also, how do I "configure" the synaptics touch pad? Does it have its own utility? Is it possible to make the touch pad more sensitive, while keeping a plugged in mouse the same?

You need to go into Mouse Properties (or just right click on the touchpad icon in your System Tray) to program your touchpad.

Oh, but I can't configure it to treat the touchpad differently than it treats a plugged in mouse?

Wisedude go to Mpuse properties/Device Settings, select synaptics touchpad in the Devices list and then click on settings.

Yes it would seem so. Its interesting how little difference the OC makes in the 3DMark score though. I saw almost no change in frame rates when running the tests...

I still wonder if its safe to use the laptop permanently overclocked from the Bios, and if the turbo button would still OC after that.

It's not there for me... I went to mouse properties then clicked hardware. Nothing called snyaptic anything... Just two things that say HID- compliant mouse....

did I need to install drivers for the snyaptic? They weren't on the CD

check if you have a Synaptics folder in Program Files. If you don't you'll have to get the driver from their homepage. I did it to make sure I had the latest version and it wasn't a hassle at all.

Btw I'm loving the machine. I am adding thousands of songs to my iTunes playlist, copying like 60GB from my external drive into my notebook, listening to music, have word, excell and ppt open, thunderbird, firefox with lots of tabs and I don't feel any sort of lag in anything.

    hey guys,

this is my first post here, i've been reading this forum for the last couple weeks and decided to go with the MSI-1651 from xotic pc to replace my old dieing HP...

anyway, it arrived today and i pretty much love it but i am also having trouble with the ECO button...mine does not light up/respond when pressed.

I have Vista X64 (installed by Xotic) and the SCM is installed as well...any suggestions?

I had the same problem. What I did was:
    1. Download the lastest version of the System Control Manager from the MSI website (http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=utility&maincat_no=135&prod_no=1529)
    2. Uninstall the SCM that came with the laptop
    3. Restart the laptop
    4. Install the version you just downloaded
    5. Restart the laptop

    And everything worked!

NOTE: I did have to restart after uninstalling AND installing the SCM. Otherwise it didn't work for some reason.

Still need an answer to my question: If the card reader is installed properly, will it have a drive letter in vista even if no card is in the drive? I have no card to test, and see no drive letter for it. I really want to know if it was installed properly

Laptop isn't starting after I got the hard drive installed o_O. After I installed Vista, it was working fine. However, after shutting it off and restarting, it gets stuck at the loading screen (with the bar going across) forever. When I safemode, it gets stuck after loading crcdisk.sys. Anyone knows how to solve this?
    Thanks

Edit: Installed XP and it's working... If anyone can solve this, it would be appreciated. I guess it's XP for now :p

my internet surfing temps: 30C/20C (CPU, undervolted), 41C (GPU) and 34C (HDD). Yours? No notebook cooler, but back is raised.

Btw, exactly how did you solve this issue? I'm running XP now, and I would much rather run Vista. Hard to find XP drivers (if anyone could direct me to them for this notebook, it would be appreciated). I don't have any external storage or anything plugged in.

amazed, 5254 3dmarks and one round of 3dmark temps are: peak GPU temp is 54C. CPU that isn't undervolted peaked 44C/37C and HDD was 36C. No notebook cooler , and vents are slightly blocked by wires and books

Wow, I love the laptop in every way except for the speakers, they suck. I noticed no problem earlier, but listen to diggnation (a video podcast) at 3/4 volume whenever they raised their voices at all their was a tinny distortion sound... My 5 year old apple powerbook had better speakers than these

Yea speakers are pretty bad.. if it wasnt for that, it would be pretty perfect for me.

As far as the solution for the vista error, lemme ask you first: is your copy of vista a legit one, or does it try to install a bootloader hack to bypass the activation? i found this to be the problem.

They do suck... They are better than the ones in the XPS 1530 though. Imagine how bad those are.

I have managed to make the sound a bit more bearable by playing with the speakers enhancements in the properties section. Its not a huge improvement but its something.
