Mine still hasn't shipped. I'm getting killed here. The first week of school wasn't too strenuous, I got by. I really do need it now.

I guess mine will ship either Monday or Tuesday.

Thanks.. just tested out my photoshop skills after several years without use >_<.

With your change of avatar, I thought you were someone else :p .

At least I'm not the only one that hasn't gotten it shipped yet . Guess I shouldn't be complaining since mines only move to phase 2 a day after someguyoverthere.
Congrats to those who did get theirs shipped :D. If any of you has time to review/take pics, it would be greatly appreciated :)

Edit: added a Canada flag onto the sig :).. Canada Pride!!

Hi, guys. I received mine today from PNB and it's freaking fast. Mind you, I was using a 6 year old laptop before this so my thoughts about the speed is relative. Vista installation was a breeze .5and I was up and running in no time.

Vista gave the 2.53 Ghz processor a score of 5.4 and the graphics card a score of 5.5. All others were maxed out(4GB CL4 RAM; 160 GB 7200 RPM HD.

I had one glitch so far when the screen went blank followed by the appearance of a matrix of colors. The problem went away upon rebooting and I haven't had a problem since.

My initial opinion is that, this is a great machine which will please most users who aren't avid gamers.

    Cheers,

    Sushel R

Also, how do you feel about the quality of the lappy?
CL4 Ram? You have PC2-5300 ram? May I ask why? :p

Depends on what you would call an avid gamer.
Clevo m860tu is the one to please crazy hardcores

I just went down the list of drivers provided on the accompanying disc and installed each one. I also went to the MSI website to download and install the latest VGA driver.

I take that back about the gaming stuff.

I have the WSXGA. I don't have a camera, sorry. I'm getting used to the new layout of the keyboard. Some genius decided to cram in the 10 key number pad and I'm not happy with it, but a few days of getting used to the layout should solve that.

I didn't quite understand what you were getting at with the memory part. I just

Since you said you had CL4 ram, I was asking if you had DDR2-667 ram.
    CL4 DDR2-800 ram doesn't exist to date.

Seems like they corrected it now

If it once said CL4, you might want to contact Donald about this. You aren't getting what you paid for..
I searched all over the web for DDR2-800 CL4, and it just doesn't exist. I have a feeling it will be existing soon though

The Kingston HyperX Pc2-6400 runs the same speed any other ram will run, so it's sorta a rip right now

My initial invoice says CL4 but the invoice that I received today says CL5, so it looks like I have what I paid for. It must have been a typo that they later fixed.

    Susheelr,

Since you have the higher rez screen, can you please run a 3Dmark06 test...it will default to the appropriate resolution at 1280x1024.

Here is a link to download the free version:

    http://www.futuremark.com/download/3dmark06/

I am very interested to see how the MSI with the 9600GT DDR3 compares to the DDR2 in the HP DV5T.

    Thanks!

BTW Gratz on the new lappy-I'm working on a 6 year old laptop and really need to pull the trigger on a new one very soon.

I placed my order the 22nd of August. My laptop was stolen and I have been borrowing my roommate's crappy decrepit gateway in the meantime. It takes 15 minutes to load windows, so you can imagine the agony.

Its a borrowed laptop so I have to stick with the owners config. It would run much better with XP

Hmm.. Specs aren't bad at all! My dad's Inspiron 6400 has very similar specs except a better processor (Vista Ultimate x86), and boots up in around a minute.
There is something in there that is slowing it down :p . At least the Inspiron 6400 is somewhat acceptable. Not uber fast, but not 10 minutes boot up :( . Wondering how long it takes you to open an internet window?

I think its the fact that the hard disk is almost full, it has 1GB of ram and its running vista. It takes like 1 minute to open a firefox window (with the basic add-ons). It gets better if I do a hard-reboot though.

If it was mine I'd format everything, install XP, run it in performance mode, update/tweak the drivers, and get a resource-light antivirus. Or just use Ubuntu.

I'm sure they have a good reason for the delay. It seems to me they are doing their best. They returned some of my calls after office-hours and must be maxed-out with a ton of pending orders. I wouldn't be surprised if your order ships on Mon. Best of lucks.

Do it, you might as well. Make sure you actually need mobile gaming power though. For $2500 you could get a desktop which is much much more powerful than the 8660, as well as a good 13.3-14" laptop.

IMO, getting a desktop + a mini laptop such as the Wind is a better idea than dumping all the cash on Np8660 unless you are almost always on the go. From what I noticed, most people who purchase the NP8660 don't care about portability too much (battery life sucks anyways :p), and say most of the time, it will be resting on a desk. For $2000 ($500 for mini lappy), a desktop can be running circles upon circles around the NP8660.

BTW.. grats on winning the lottery :D

I just downloaded 3Dmark06 and ran it. I got a whopping 982! I don't know why that is. I had to transfer a bunch of files from my old hard drive and now it is full. I will run the test again when I free up space by moving the files to a new external hard drive.

Also, the program was using DirectX 9.0 which didn't make any sense to me because Vista runs 9.0. If you guys have any suggestions then I'm all eyes.

    Cheers,

Vista has some really crappy power management, in my opinion. Check the following:

    1) Start --> Control Panel --> Power Settings. Then make sure you change it to performance mode. It is probably set to 'balanced' currently. Also, if the MSI version overrides Vista, then make sure that is set to maximum performance.

    2) Make sure you have it plugged into the outlet.

    3) Check the driver and update it. A good source is www.laptopvideo2go.com - Be sure to download the modded INF so that your mobile chip will be supported.

If those three are not the problem, I'd say you have a defective GPU, or that you really have a X4500 Intel chip in there and not a 9600M GT

Did anyone here order a 250GB 7200rpm instead of a 320gb 5400rpm HDD? Is there any distinct advantages? Will it run hotter? Drain the battery more?
Are the two merely just comparable?

    Would really appreciate the feedback???

    ThankS!

The driver version is 7.15.11.7597 and the driver date is 06/09/2008. This is the latest driver published on the MSI website. I went to the laptopvideo2go website and downloaded the driver form there, but the driver wouldn't take because apparently it is incompatible with the version of the card I have.

I changed the power options and I'll run the 3dMarks one more time. Any other suggestions are welcome.
