Hi, I have just gotten my laptop from RawPowerPC yesterday, but have some questions about it. Basically it looks like a really nice quality laptop, but I have some slight misgivings about a few things. For starters, the clear MSI badge on the top of the laptop came pretty scratched up. Does it usually come like this, or should it have come shipped with a plastic cover to protect it? Mine did not have anything over it, but for something clear like that I think there would usually have some plastic slip or something over it. Also, there's something weird about the CD-ROM tray. Although it sits flush to the rest of the laptop, it looks noticeably misaligned. When closing the CD-ROM tray, it would also often times get stuck while i'm trying to close it. Are these things problems that occured due to the supplier, or is it just a build quality issue? Other than that, everything else seems alright.
Oh, I have also installed a copy of Windows XP Pro x64. However, I'm having a lot of trouble getting the drivers working. In particular are the drivers for the LAN card, which are only 32-bits on both the driver CD that came with the laptop, and the MSI website. Besides that I also have trouble getting the built-in webcam, and the wireless card working. If anyone with a MS-1036 with Windows x64 can help, I'd definitely appreciate it.

I you would like to hit me up with a PM, I can provide the 64bit drivers to you (or just use our email address on the site). The only thing that a driver is not available for at this time is the CCD Web Camera.
As for the badge, MSI provides us with those badges and they come in a plastic sleeve, sadly, they are all "scuffed" up like that, despite that protection, I'm not really sure why. MSI is having new ones made that say "Powered by MSI" as well as ones made for various resellers with their own names and logos. Perhaps when these are available, they will not be scratched up and we can have one sent out to you. We've chosen to use these badges (the only ones available at present) rather than leave the opening in the back of the LCD lid.
Edit: As for the ODD tray, I've found all the MS-1036's to be like this. If you close it while applying slight downward pressure, it slides in nice and smoothly. -
Thanks for the reply unleaded! You've pretty much answered everything to my satisfaction. It's too bad about the badge, but after reading some other posts about MS-1036s being sent with an open slot/no badge, I don't feel quite as bad. If you guys ever get a custom rawpower badge, I'd defintely like to get one! Other than that, I guess I'll be PMing you about the 64bit drivers. Thanks for the help!

How silly do I feel? CoffeeShark just let me know that there IS a plastic film on the badge. Since they come to us in an individual plastic sleeve, I guess I never looked that closely
. I believe if you work at one of the corners, you should be able to pull up the film.

Lol, well I don't blame you. I had actually tried picking at the corners earlier in hopes of finding a protective film on it, but stopped for fear of making it worse. Anyways, found the film, removed it, and now it looks absolutely beautiful now!

Wow, I thought the same thing about my badge too..... I found the film, and it now looks great too.
Unleaded, I would be interested in the 64 bit drivers for my msi-1036 too.
Thanks -
Tell you what, I'm going to go ahead and upload them to our site so that those who need them can D/L. I'll be back in a bit with a D/L link.

actually, the first time i saw the badges, i thought the same thing. i had to mess with them, the film was very thin and hard to remove.
back to work! lol -
CoffeeShark,
Thanks for the badge insight.... -
Those badges on the back of the lid...can you buy those becuase I built the laptop myself and it didnt come with one!
-
Just a note about the badge: If you look VERY closely, you'll most likely notice that there is a plastic skin that is on top. When I got my badge, I thought that it was very scratched up too. However, when I rubbed it with my finger, I realized that there was a protective plastic on it that you usually see on cell phone screens, etc. I had the badge in my hand and it was very difficult to get the plastic to peel off, now that yours is placed in the cover, it might be tuff, but with patience you should be able to remove it.
