I recently just bought the 17.3 msi gp72 7rex and I closed the power cord in it :(, the monitor model #n173hhe-g32. It is the 120mhz 5ms version with the 40 pin. I cannot find it for sale anywhere at all. Are there any compatible replacements or any advice? I don't ncessarily need the 120mhz 5ms version, but I want the resolution to be 1980x1020.. Please and thanks for any advice.

Ugh. You can try contacting MSI to see about warranty but that's probably not covered unless you pay. How exactly did you close the screen on the power cord? Did you slam it down or were you rushing? You should never apply pressure when closing these laptop screens. Just let gravity do the work. That way you can quickly catch anything. I always lift the cover gingerly and let the hinge move it rather than trying to push it down. Another thing that helps is putting the microfiber cloth on the keycaps first, then you wind up spending time making sure it's straight, which should prevent mistakes.

I found a supposedly compatible monitor B173ZAN01.0, both are 40 pin but I have no idea which specs to compare. Anyone with expert advice?

Sorry for the ignorance but are they compatible with one another? Do you just need to look at the EDP connectivity?

30-pin & 40-pin are not compatible with each other if this is what you were asking about.

Yeah I know they aren't compatible but are all 40 pins compatible with other 40 pins?

No. Yet with eDP there's much less varieties than with LVDS. The most important things to look for are whether your cable actually is fully populated and the lcd's control voltage. Both panels are 4-lane and 3.3V, so neither is an issue.

Mind that the ZAN is 2160p instead of the 1080p you've requested (very nice panel, though). Also, AUO has misleadingly listed this panel as having an outline height of 230mm, but in reality it is 252mm due to its pcb dangling beneath. Your display lid needs to have that extra bit of room to accommodate this panel.

Best check for any panel-matching is finding the specification sheets of both panels. The ZAN's is easily found, but haven't had much luck tracking the G32's. Panelook has it for download, but you need P-coins (in-store credit) and don't have many left of those. Btw, the G32 is an interesting panel and a good example of a high-quality TN; blazingly fast, good colours and wide viewing angles (on par with IPS, even).

Thank you for your advice. I plan on getting the ZAN due to the fact that the G32 is only available through MSI and I'm sure they have a mark up on their products.
