This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved.     First time poster here, but I've found some useful info here many times before so thanks for all that.

    So I have a MS-1029 barebones on order as well as some guts to go in it. I was thinking. Some of the early MSI notebooks had a remote in the PCMCIA card slot. They also boasted an InstantOn feature. So I looked into it. You can still download the InstantOn software (Uses Intervidio) here...

    (Note this will create a 200MB partition and probably delete all that's on your hard drive)

    You can buy an IR remote that looks quite a bit like the MSI one and fits in a PCMCIA slot here. You probably wouldn't need the USB IR device at all.
