Hi,
I was thinking, since we have a sata optical drive and the ICH9M southbridge supports raid 0/1, would it be possible to set up raid?
i.e. Buy a HDD caddy for the optical bay, stick in second HDD, would there be a raid option in the BIOS (under the SB option in the advanced menu, use old BIOS for this)?

no the system does not support raid that we have even though normally the chipset does its not that way in the 620

Well thanks for the info, I guess I would have seen a raid controller in the device manager if we had one...

You can still do software raid through windows, while not as fast as hardware raid, it's still faster then jabod.

Good idea.
I wonder what would be faster, a 7k500 or two 5400RMP drives in software raid?
e.g. two of these drives:

Hmm, this makes me think raid is possible, as you can see there is an option for raid in my 1.0T BIOS:

That's nice ! 2 7200rpm drive is better. Do you have 2 identical drive laying around or borrow so you could try ?

No, I wish i did...
But someone must have two, just use the 1.0T BIOS, if you need it I can give a link. -
It won't work on 1722. Besides I would still need a 2nd HDD
If it's there it should work , is it a modded one ? -
Aye, just replace the ODD dead, put the disk drive in an external casing, i'd likesomeone to make this happen though

It's an official BIOS, just an older one. -
Have you tried selecting RAID and booting into the Intel matrix storage manager?
Check the Intel matrix console in windows too. Should be ICH9M-E -
That's weird as MSI Gseries don't come with twin HDD. Worth a try though

BTW it is the ICH9M-E/M controller. -

I selected raid, then I just got a BSOD at the windows loading screen.
I'm not sure, is there something I have to press to get into the storage manager? -
of course youd get a BSOD, its not set up yet lol
CTRL+F or I (if i recall correctly)
EDIT: press CTRL+I repeatedly after it POSTS. Ref -

Ok, thanks I'll try again.

CTRL+F didn't work, I forgot to try CTRL+I lol, I'll try it now.

CTRL+I didn't work either.

. I'm moving soon so no time for big project.

I'm going to try to get another 7k320 and see if raid is possible, does anyone have one by any chance?
