After no issues with the GT80 for a while i open it up today and the screen is dsiplaying these faint diagonal dot artifacts it looks like when windows is on.

I've tried uninstalling the nvidia card drivers and using the MUX switch for intel graphics but they still remain.

Do I just scrap it at this point?. is there a chance it's just bad RAM?.

The alienware 17 plugged in next to it seems to have developed its own artifacting. Its definitely what they were plugged into. Doing an EC reset on them seems to have made it stop, but concerned about perma damage.

Something is wrong. Is your unit still under warranty or not? Have you used any testing utility to diagnose for the issue?

The AW17 is still under warranty, but neither unit has shown any problems since then. It really seems to have just been a busted surge protector or wall outlet.

No crashes during stresstests or anything, and the artifacting is gone. chkdsc and sfc found nothing, and both passed RAM diagnostics.
