Hi all, new to site so hello.

I have had my Gt 725 for over 2 years and have started to get rattleing noises from GPU fan, had a look and it looks like the fan bearing is on way out.

    Any had anything similar happen?
And what are my options to replace?

    Many thanks in advance.

I think it's best if you call MSI's support and ask them what to do.

everything is replaceable more or less but you need to have the right parts and it's not easy to replace things in laptop (some are easier, I think clevo are build so that things within the laptop can be replace and the fan is replace for it goes to hell. But I can't say how it is with MSI.)

But as I said. call them and ask.

    Regards,

Generally, on MSI units it will have to be sent to an authorized repair center to have something like that fixed. They sometimes have warranty seals on the unit that if you open it up it voids the warranty. Since you have had the unit for over 2 years, however, that may not be an issue, but I don't know how willing MSI will be to ship you the parts to repair yourself. As Valentin said though, start by contacting them or your reseller and work from there!

Try what people say if you can't do it yourself :) But it's very easy, especially on that model :)
If you want I have one which it was used for around two months and after I upgraded my video, for which I bought new heatsink and fan.

That happened to my GT627 after 1 year, so they fixed it for free. Since yours doesn't have warranty anymore, your best option is probably getting the one that Genna is offering, since is not that easy to find them.

The fan is the same. Just there is difference in the heatsink, because nVidia GT9600M is MXM 2.1 Type II card and I've upgraded it to ATI Mobility Radeon 4850 (from signature) and it is MXM 2.1 Type III HE. The heatsink I've bought for it came with fan. That's why I have additional one. But there is one thing - I need to check where I put it, because I know I have it, but I don't now where it is. Hope I didn't loose it. I'll check and let you know.

Located one from Germany 46 Euros, and fitted this morning. 5 min job and all done. Bearing on my fan well out :( So happy to have it back and running in tip top condition.

New question, would the heat sink from 4850m fit 6970m??

Nope! The the 6970 is a mxm 3.0 B spec card. Your laptop can only take mxm 2.1 spec cards.

Basically you can only upgrade to a mxm 2.1 III card eg the 4850 512mb msi card

Well. The heatsink would fit... the card would not.

If you ever had a reason however you could potentially use the ms-1722/gt725 ati 4850 heatsink on the gx740 or ms-1727/gt740 and vice versa.
