    Hey folks,
    After reading a giant topic about the GX740 (127pages :) )

I thought i'd turn to you guys for some help.
Lot of you guys are all across the world and seem to be getting those awesome deals.

Now I've got my eye settled on this GX740 but the configs are spread out. I live in the netherlands so my options seem limited...

I really like this laptop, and need the GPU for autocad. And offcourse games (shhhhh). But the thing is, with all these configurations where does it end. I can't find my "ideal" setup.

Which brings me to the question:
Where can I get this setup for a reasonable price (And should I buy outside Netherlands)

    Ideal setup: "MSI GX 740"

    GPU: Radeon 5870
    CPU: Core i5 460m or 540m or 560m
17" screen with 1680x1050!!!! (Ive only seen dutch setups with 1440x900)
    500GB HDD
all the standard / cheap things included.

The screen should be 1680x1050 which is ideal for me, and 1440x900 just doesn't cut it.

Why i5m instead of i7 620QM, budget, and I don't feel the need for a quadcore, (Im still running a Q6600 in my pc and it still gets rarely 100%)
Also I would like to get as much power out of it as possible ;)
And the i5 procs, have a TDP of 35W which is 10W lower.

My range is 1200 euros which is 1500 USD or so. I prefer to buy in The Netherlands... but if I have no option then I shall order outside NL.

Let me know guys, I need this laptop soon. Any bargains etc is welcome.
Feel free to reply with alternatives.

    bump! Help me out!

Found out that we have 2 versions in NL , the 236NL and 274. Difference is screen size. 1440x900 and 1680x1050.

Will it really matter on playing games?

1440x900 is better if you're just playing games.

Games ->lower native res the better
    AutoCAD/professional work ->needs higher res.

Actually i am from holland to and i also bought the GX740 from alternate but a couple of months back.
Mine came with the i5 430m but a native resolution of 1680*1050

I had a look again on the website and i see that they changed for the i5 460m and 1440*900

What you can do is call them if the other model is still available and if you can change the processor only.

    Just an idea :)

    Regards,

    Jim

ps. i could not be more happier with the laptop!!!
Had a heatproblem with the gpu but after updating the bios with the guide provided on this forum it is running just perfect!!!

Hmm sorry it's off topic, but jim how much did the bios update drop the heat by? I was thinking of getting your exact machine, but I had heard the heat was immense compared to new models.

it's about 10C on load, give or take. Maybe max at 90 previously but that's not really a problem yet.

Im doing autocad, aswell as games.
Is there anyway the screen is replaceable with a higher res version? As the models are exactly the same, except the screen?

I believe you can only replace it with a 1920x1200 screen.

The i7 620M is a Dual core, not a Quad as you state. Also the 620M has a TDP of 35W.
The main difference between the i5 5xx and the i7 6xx is the L3 cache is 1M larger.

Thought I would clarify that for you.

Actually, my machine got so hot it auto shut down ( around 110c )
After the bios update it now gets around 80/85 max on load!
So in my case it made a difference of around 25/30c on load -_-

But yeah i saw most people also experience about 10c difference
