So today I got the laptop finally. And what a beatifull machine it is!
Now when I have a bright colour (gray / white) the pixels get noisy. And it looks like they are floating over the screen.
It's really weird but I noticed it soon. Anybody has problems with that?
I already updated the ATI catalyst drivers but I don't think it's a driver issue.
It only happens when I have a bright gray or white colour.
It's even more noticable when you tilt the screen. Then you see a lot of noise.
Is this normal? Im fairly agitated by it. I know the screen aint much, but this isn't how it should be right?
Thanks in advance,
Kevin
-
Yep I get it too it happens rarely and over time you get used it.
Just try not to look for it and you'll forget about it. -
It happends all the time over here? especially with gradient colors?
Is there any way I can transfer a glossy or different screen into it?
Perhaps through MSI self?
My Gf's Toshiba laptop has way better colours, and even though it isn't still beautiful, it's way better then the MSI gx740's screen.
Laptop works splendid, and looks heavy duty, but the screen is just plain bad
Thanks,
Kevin -
If you look at the background of this forum do you still see the sparkly pixels? Because I don't see them anymore.
The screen is already glossy. Maybe it takes a while for the screen to settle in, just wait a week and see if it's still bad.
I used to think the screen was bad all the time but you get used to it. -
I've never had pixels floating over the screen, or even sparkly pixels? my screen has always been fine!
-
-
I have this model:
MSI GX740 274 NL
Which comes with a matte 1440x900 screen. -
ooooh...
I have the E7405 with 1680x1050 Glossy.
Didn't know there was a 1440x900 matte version. -
Are they exchangeable by any means?
-
Yes I think so. There's plenty of screen resellers.
-
Has anybody have a how-to ? Cause I have seriously no idea where to look for a MSI GX 740 screen, or a high quality screen... that will fit in the 16:10 ratio and screen.
-
The new vBIOS update apparently fixes the fuzzy screen issue.
-
Not happy with the colours aswell. Ill try updating the vbios.
Bearclaw,
Do you have any idea where I can find a replacement with led lighting etc? I really miss a lot of red colours and the grayness hurts my eyes. My eyes get really tired after 1 hour use.
Im in europe and screentek does do replacement, but only those of the original models. It should be possible to stick an other screen into the MSI right? And trade this one in. Want a really good screen to save my eyes from popping out.
edit:
The vbios did help. It removes the dancing/floating pixels in the gray colours. They probably have a different algorhytm. No floating pixels but diagonal lines which move as you look closely. Far less anoying. Still looking for screen replacement. -
You can't replace it with LED.
-
Care to explain why?
-
CCFL can't be replaced with LED.
-
niffcreature ex computer dyke
Because your motherboard outputs 19v into an inverter which transfers it to somewhere around 600v for the CCFL backlight, and 24-bit 30pin dual LVDS link for the data. Where an LED screen will need something much less than 600v with a special inverter for LEDs and 40 pin LVDS connection for the data. Mechanically the connectors are all totally different and the LED backlighting power may or may not be built into the 40 pin connection.
Good news is that you don't need to find a gx740 LCD - any CCFL backlit screen will probably work, including WUXGA which are all usually very good quality as far as colors and brightness.
BUT if the VBIOS fixes it then there is no need, unless you just want to upgrade. -
Hello guys!
I've bought MSI GX 740 a month ago. I'm really disappointed because of display. It's the worst display I've ever seen! I also have an old laptop (7 years) and even there the display quality is better than here! (sick!) I'm so happy that I found this thread cuz maybe someone will help me to solve the problem. I do have exactly the same prob as Radium69: dancing pixels, poor colors, poor quality. I see pixels and it makes me crazy because I spent all my money for that machine. The vBIOS update changed nothing, still there are some funny floating pixels. Niffcreature wrote that there's possibility to change the matrix but for which? It can't be LED, that I know. WUXGA will be perfect but it cost too much. Besides, I don't need to have 1920x1200 resolution, 1680x1050 is good for me. Maybe some hint which matrix will be good for GX740? Or maybe I need to update vBIOS once again? Waiting for answer. -
I still want to upgrade, doesn't need to hurry though.
But I've got a new problem,
Turns out my Vbios was NEWER then the one I found in a topic, which according to bearclaw was stable.
But I get all fuzzy purple pixels on my background!!! Like dead pixels, but it's not a screen issue.
When playing 3D (Quake 1 Darkplaces) And other games run fine.
When I run furmark it gets all purple and has fuzzy pixels.
I'm scared less at the moment because I don't want to ruin anything further.
Any help would be appreciated, I use this laptop for school so I need to fix it in a hurry!!!
@Feilong,
Just type into google, you can put original screens on it, the 1680x1050 is much better then the 1440x900 they say.
But any WUXGA screen will do. You can even replace it on your own. Just search around, like "gx740 display".
The screen can be anoying, I'm used to good screens, but this screens hurts my eyes with the dancing pixels. With the VBIOS update it was resolved, but now i've got purple pixels all over the place!
If you need any more info just tell me. -
Yep, 1680x1050 will be good, I don't need 1920x1200 but if I understood good:
there's no 1680x1050 WUXGA. I'm also used to good screens so it's a bit frustrating that You're buying great machine and the display quality is poor. I'm really really disappointed. Radium did You found anything interesing about the replacement? Because I think it will be necessary to change the matrix. -
Radium and what do You think about this dancing pixels: it's just a "bug" or it's maybe poor display quality? Tell me: did vBIOS flash helped You in restoring better quality?
-
Can someone post a video of these dancing pixels, as for the life of me. I can not seen any thing like that on my lcd
-
MSI Gx740 matrix
There's a vid. -
I fixed the pixels with a VBIOS recommended by bearclaw. It fixed the dancing pixels, and instead of this:
.:.:.:...:;'';; <- pixels
I get this:
/////////////
/ / / / / / /
Diagonal lines, like a raster pattern.
It's far less noticable, and it's better this way. But now I've got problems with the 5870m VBIOS again, cause on battery mode pixels get all purple. And I get artifacts.
Don't know what to do, i read your thread fei long.
Do you also have the 1440x900 screen? -
I have other screen: 17' WSXGA+ (1680x1050) Glare Type. My monitor/matrix is Samsung 170MT02-G01. As I remember We have almost the same monitors. To ensure You need to install HWiNFO 32 and check Your monitor properties. Here You can download it: HWiNFO32 Download
Inform Us about Your progress
EDIT: And btw where did You get from Your vBIOS version? From MSI official page? And did You saw my vid with dancing pixels? -
Yes I have seen your video, although it's sh*t quality, I can't make my own video... No camera... And my pixels are gone so the problem is gone with the VBIOS.
I already have HWINFO32,
Look up my thread here, http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/546676-msi-gx740-artifacts-battery-mode.html
Bearclaw pointed to me that the idle battery clocks were too high, so I need to flash the vbios again, but no idea where to find the original one...
If you look closely at the battery load pic in that thread you will see purple pixels in the fur from furmark. Might need to zoom in.
Just need a good vbios. -
Yes, my vid quality sucks but there are visible those damn pixels. About Your vBIOS You're using the old version because date of that single post is 08/12/2010 and the latest vBIOS release is from 11/22/2010 so in my oppinion You need to install this, latest version: http://www.msi.com/service/download/firmware-12911.html
And I'll give You a tip. After flashing (if You want to flash of course) open ATI Catalyst Control Center and choose display properties / color. Now set the brightness to -46 value and contrast to 125. In this moment fuzzy pixels are almost invisible, at least for me. But still there's ugly display quality with poor pixel sharpness on bright colors. Waiting for answer and GL ! -
UPDATED TO NEWEST VBIOS: DANCING PIXELS CAME BACK! Here's some pictures:
They move really fast all the time, but I only shot still pictures.
Allthough it's under an angle its really annoying with normal view aswell. Just as visible. -
Hehe I also tried to make a picture form ATI CCC panel
Well done. So what do You think guys? Does anyone have GX740? And if yes, please tell us: do you have the same problem as We?
Also I wrote a mail to MSI support ====> http://support.msi.com It will be good if You would do the same, maybe then they will see the problem and tell Us how to fix it. -
MrFeilong no I dont have this issue my LCD is fine, But I have a different issue that wont get fixed till i get a new hard drive
-
Radium can You tell me what's Your vBIOS version? You can check that in ATI CCC Information center/ graphic hardware. There's vBIOS version and data. I will be grateful for both because I flashed vBIOS twice but with no result I think.
Portugeeza can You tell me exactly what model of GX740 You have? Because mine is GX740-076PL. And Your screen - is it matte or glossy? And also I will be grateful for info about vBIOS version. And what about You HDD ? -
BIOS-versie 012.020.000.042
BIOS-onderdeelnummer BR35757.027
BIOS-datum 2010/09/14 -
Model is GX740-061UK my LCD is the same as yours Samung 170MT02-G01 I'm not sure where is get my bios information from? My hard drive issue is that it keeps going in to power saver mode, when playing games it makes me think the system is lagging, and the only way to fix this is to use a program called crystal disk every time I turn on the laptop or restart it. just to turn off power saving mode
-
@Portugeeza: it's so annoying that We have prob with our screen and You don'tI'm really frustrated. And about vBIOS version, did You tried to check in ATI Catalyst Control Center? Look at instruction which I gave Radium. I will be really grateful for this info because maybe it will be something that will help us to resolve our display prob.
EDIT: Portugeeza I checked Your laptop model specification and it looks like You have LED screen but how it's possible? I think that's incorrect info on site: http://skinflint.co.uk/a540191.html
Also please, can You check the sticker with lap specification? It's near touchpad. Do You see any info about LED screen? And if You have do You know what's Your motherboard? You can install HWiNFO 32 to check that: http://www.hwinfo.com/download32.html
Mine is MSI MS-1727
I also have problem with disk lag and it's pissing me off! You're telling that Crystal Disk software can fix it? -
I'm disappointed. Read that, I think there's no medicine for GX740 grainy screen:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/504879-disappointed-gx740-screen.html
Everyone have the same problem. I know about dancing pixels but I think that new vBIOS version will fix them. But no fix for GX740 granularity. -
-
MrFeiLong my screen is not an LED its a Glare Type, it says this on the sticker, my motherboard is MSI MS-1727
Bios information as follows
BIOS Version 012.020.000.032
BIOS Part Number BR35757.023
BIOS Date 2010/06/04
Looks like my BIOS is an older version you could always give it a try and see if it helps.
Try crystal disk to turn off Advanced Power Management
you have to do this every time you turn on the laptop -
@Bearclaw: where are You from? Poland?
@Portugeeza: maybe You're right. I'll try to find older vBIOS version and flash again. But still donno what to do with granularity (hope You know what I mean). And thx a lot for tip about HDD lag, I need to try it cuz it's really pissing me off, especially when I'm using Office - disk lags all the time! Perhaps maybe new BIOS will solve the HDD lag problem? Tomorrow I'm going to call MSI tech support and I'll ask them about everything, even about display replacement. -
-
-
-
Feilong, have you posted this thread on the MSI forum?
I'm still stumbled how and why, old VBIOS solves the pixel dancing but gives wrong clocks. Where's an MSI expert when you need onehehe
-
And about MSI expert, today I called MSI tech support and asked about display granularity and dancing pixels. They told me that there's a possibility to change that (even grainy screen) with a proper vBIOS version so at last some good info. They will send me it. If software won't solve the problem they will replace the display for display with same parameters but other producer (so it won't be Samsung). I don't need to tell that I'm freaking happy
But there will be a time for hapiness, not now
Portugeeza maybe this info will put a smile on Your face. I also asked them about HDD lag. It's a software on WD official site to stop that but I can't find it -
Ok so I have other, older vBIOS version and it fixed dancing pixels. Version numer of vBIOS: BR35757.023. The same as You had previously Radium and it means that Bearclaw knew what he's talking about, smart guy
Still, as You said Radium, there is no dancing pixels but some kind of "////" lines moving from right to left. It's far less annoying but it could be better. So it means that I'll need to send my laptop to MSI center and see what they will do. Hope they'll replace screen with other, not Samsung. I'll keep You informed
-
MrFeiLong So you tryed the vBIOS I'm using and it did not work then, You must have a screen problem, I also had a look on WD's website and under my HD there is some software but none for HD laggin, If you do chat to them ask them to email you the software.
-
Yep I think it's a screen problem. Ok, I'll ask them if I will be able to, You have my word. I think that I send my laptop as fast as I can. I'll inform You guys
-
I reverted from the new vbios to the old one that you have. However, that vbios messed the clocks up and voltage. So I got a higher clock than the new vbios, and due to the wrong clocks being used on a low voltage, the GPU started to artifact. Maybe send that message to them, and tell them that they need to combine that vbios with the correct clocks.
There still isn't a solution for this! -
-
The 1440 screen is known to be weird. This screen type is used for the Medion X7811 in second revision too. It's brighter but has clouding effects.
-
BTW tomorrow I'm sending back my GX740 to MSI. Wondering how long it will take?
I'll keep posting here from other laptop
