I have this laptop and bought a 4870m and install on it because my 5850m was bad (didn't let me install drivers and have overheat problems).

So this "new" card, the 4870m works on my laptop, and i install drivers and don't have overheat problems, but it give me bad colors on my laptop screen. But when I connect it to VGA port or HDMI port, the external screen have good colors. There are some pictures:

So if anyone have any idea to help me solve my problem, please give it to me. I tried flashing vbios, but there is only 1 vbios for this video card, i couldn't fine more. So I dont know what to do now, please help.

    Thanks!

Radeon has very poor driver support. There's nothing you can do about it. It's best to sell that dinosaur, and get an MSI GT60 or GT70.

I have two pieces of advice for you with the 5850. Either has worked for me with the poor driver support thing.

#1) If you do not want to use windows 8 ever, and stay on vista forever, just install the MSI ati drivers that came with the computer/came with the install cd. You will get them properly and when you update, just install over them.

A lot of people say that you should delete everything, but with dirvers nowadays, that's just being paranoid, and makes things much of a hassle.

#2) If you want to install windows 8, or have a copy through msdn/technet already, just install it. Yeah, just that. Windows 8 will detect your graphics card and install some drivers. You can then install the latest drivers from AMD's site. It works like a charm.

Both suggestions are from personal experience. Hopefully then you will not have the screen issues. But it's also a laptop screen. Don't expect much from it.

Are you having this issue before drivers are installed?

Yea, don't sell it LOL. Wait a while and upgrade it to GTX 660m, 670m. For now, I suggest you start collecting VBIOS for MXM 3.0 ATI 4870s. You can definitely fix this issue. Its due to LVDS output in the vBIOS. There is a program that can even exchange LVDS structures between ATI vBIOS, it has worked for some.

There are 2 things you can do to go into this... 1. go to the Acer forum and look through threads about the 8735g. A lot of people have had similar issues with normal cards on the 8735g, I believe you can find some help and links to the program there. 2. ask user .Netroller3d about this issue. He may have time to fix the vBIOS for you.

    Hes NOT using a 5850.
Hes NOT using vista OR windows 8.
    nice generalization
You have failed to ask the simplest question to diagnose whether or not drivers have any effect, and determine whether or not your personal experience has any relevance whatsoever.
You set your standards miserably low. Its a laptop that probably cost him 1000$ and your telling him not to expect colors to display properly? The screen is fully functional as well as the graphics card, why would he not expect to be able to fix this issue? I expect a 40-60$ laptop screen to function as should everyone since plenty of companies sell them new for that price. This is not about color quality, a fact you might have missed by not reading any of the thread at all.

You obviously did not get past 7 words of the original post. Nothing you have posted applies unless maybe you've failed to mention that you're running a Dell/Alienware 5850 in your MSI gx640?

Really its kind of sad. Please, spend a few seconds thinking and reading before you post.

oh and i forget to answer your question, yes i'm having this issue before i install drivers, so i don't think it is a driver issue :/
