So I have a slight problem where:

I close the lid and the laptop goes into sleep or hibernate but never fully sleeps or shuts off, it just stays in a state of fans spinning, lights on and screen black.

I have Windows Power Settings set to NEVER SLEEP on Power Button, Sleep Button and Lid Close.

    Any suggestions/fixes?

Yeah, it's not really going into hibernate; it's just that the screen goes black. In my experience, the problem went away with Catalyst 10.3.

Turn off powerplay and see if problems are still present

In my experience, with the original drivers the screen would just stay off after it was closed, but with 10.3 (even with PowerPlay on) it would turn back on okay. However, PowerPlay still causes trouble with sleep and hibernate, so I do recommend turning it off as well.

I suspect that turning PowerPlay off and updating to 10.3 would both fix the problem, but doing both is best.

    Nvm...

The powerplay settings did not affect the problem at all.

I fixed it just by installing Windows 7 Pro x64. Works perfectly now!

Before I was using Windows 7 Home Premium x64 but I was going to upgrade anyways since I needed to repartition more space from my C drive to others and I also needed 7 Pro or Ultimate for the Windows XP Mode.

I just happened to come across my Win 7 Pro X64 disk :D

Quite strange that the switch from Home Premium to Pro would fix the issue. What video drivers are you using?

Does Win7 have more updated drivers than the one that's preinstalled, is that why the issue gets fixed?

Maybe it was preconfigured wrong? Fresh install might have helped iron things out

So does installing fresh Windows7 ultimate fully solve this? Meaning we still get the optimal running conditions (gpu running cool, fans working when they should be working, etc etc)? Or does it just solve the hibernate/lid thingy/black screen thingy only?
