I know this is similar to the battery thread, but I wanted to make a distinction. Mods, if this it too close in subject, please maybe merge this with the battery thread? Thanks.

Anyway, does anyone know where you can buy the Bluray drive(s) (there are several varieties) for the GX640? I'd assume it would be much cheaper than buying the upgrade through somewhere like Xotic (like the battery). Thanks in advance. Also, if I were to buy the drive separately, I's want to make sure that the drive bezel matches the GX640.

Frostycomputers.com and they also have an ebay store I believe. I'm 90% sure I saw a gx640 blu ray drive.
If its not on the site then check their ebay store.

Can't you just use any slim sata blue-ray drive and swap the bezel?

The drives at frostycomputers doesn't have the performance I'm looking for. Plus the better drive is cheaper on Xotic than the only drive on frostycomputers. Are you sure about swapping the bezel on any drive? If that's possible, that's definately the way to go.

I'm not sure dude, but looking at the current bezel, it has an LED on which complicates my theory. You can just use the bezel from the aftermarket one. It should look fine.

Do you know where to get the drive itself, though? eBay doesn't look too good.

It looks like ebay is your best bet unfortunately. Another thing to consider is the placement of the clamp where the screw from the case secures the drive in place. It may not match the current drive's placement. Perhaps the best thing for you would be either the original MSI drive, or an external BD drive. That being said, I really think Blue Ray is a waste of money. In a couple of years everything will be in digital download format, discs will be a thing of the past, and for the better I might add.

I don't know if you're still interested, but I've bought a slim Blu-ray drive on eBay and it works like a charm !
Now I've got the very fast LG CT21N inside my GX640.
Installation has been very easy. The hardest part has been to take off the MSI bezel (and that wasn't that difficult).

Also, I'm very happy that MSI provides us WinDVD 2010 for free :) (just download it on the MSI site).

I bought this one, but maybe you can find one cheaper if it's not sold as an external drive.
