I'm trying to compile the differences...since one of the things that I'd never use on the 600 is the turbo button, and the 610 doesn't have it, I could maybe go either way.

    GX600 - Core2Duo, 800 MHz FSB, 4 MB cache
    GX610 - Turionx2, 1600 MHz FSB? Haven't Verified it yet. 1 MB cache (512/512)

    GX600 - NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT, RAM type = ?
    GX610 - ATI RADEON 2600M - 256 MB GDDR3

    GX600 - 4 speakers + subwoofer
GX610 - at least 2 speakers, MSI specs don't specify further

Looks like the GX610 might not have the ESATA port, also. Still, with the Turion's faster FSB, it might be more effective for some processor-intensive tasks (like when I'm messing with a ton of MP3s for instance...).

If the GX610 is using the latest AMD cores, performance may be pretty close, since they're using an AMD/ATI chipset.

imo the core 2 is the better cpu and the 2600m is the better gpu.. depends what you want.. thereis no way yet to know which amd's they will have but id bet they are still the current ones..

THe latest ones would be Tyler with the 1600 MHz FSB. Less cache, but between the faster FSB and the local memory controller, memory performance should still be real good.

The Intel will probably still get better battery life, but who cares about battery life much in a gaming notebook? ;) So long as I can get at least WXGA+, and preferably WSXGA. :)

Actually, I'd like to be able to get some reasonable battery life also, but reasonable and best are two different things. This would be a wonderful opportunity to test the "Centrino" platform versus the "Turion" platform, now that AMD is using their own chipset.

the 8600gt is def not the best gaming card .. ive learned that just from playing on my freinds asus system its okay but def does not hold anything against the 8700 or higher cards... the 2600 with ddr3 is supposed to be better than the 8600 with ddr2..

The 2600 can be OCed to the 2600XT specs so with GDDR3, yeah it's bettter than a DDR2 8600M GT.

Hmm...OK, so it's a question of the speakers then, since it looks like the GX610 is supposed to be available with WSXGA+ (Probably only the Extreme Edition though....RK Computers has the WXGA version, but that's it....no one else has either version listed right now. )

You know what's screwy? I just checked the manuals on msi.com.tw and the AMD machine with the BETTER video card (The ATI 2600) is only available with a WXGA screen! The Intel one with the not-quite-as-good 8600 chip is the only one with WXGA+ and WSXGA options! What a crock!

However, you should probably take into account that the GX610 is available currently, whereas the GX600 isn't.

The AMD has the better GPU, the Intel has the better CPU, and of the two, I'd rather have the Intel one.

Love to see a comparitive review when they're both out....maybe someone will do one.

I'll probably hold out for the Intel, just for the screen resolution. But I'd rather have that ATI GPU attached to it. ;)

The barebone (MS-1634) is only available in WXGA, so far all the new 15.4" models are only available in WXGA............

Yikes....so I wonder how configurable the Extreme Editions are...definitely have to go with one of those anyway, if I want something better than WXGA (and I most definitely do).

The msi brand systems (GX610) extreme are not configurable, they are pre-configured by the manufacture. Usually in two different models, combo of different processor, mem, or hard disk.

Well now, that's truly going to be a pain then. Is the GX610 Extreme even available yet? I haven't seen it anywhere...

If the GX700 is light-weight enough, I might go that route, I suppose...not sure the Extreme Edition of the 15 inch machines are actually going to have 4 speakers and a subwoofer. The 700/710 look like they're pretty light for 17 inch machines, though I'd still prefer a 15.4.

None of the 15.4's have 4 speakers or subs. Only the 17's.

That settles it then....I want something with decent enough sound to watch DVDs on. The ad in MaximumPC implied a sub on the GX600 Extreme Edition (Figured they could fit it in if Toshiba managed to fit 2 HDDs into a 15 inch chassis).

Sorry, but I think you're wrong. The Acer Aspire 5920 has a built-in sub. So does the GX600, if my memory serves me right.

    So does the Toshiba AV425, AV423, and AV412. The GX600 doesn't have a subwoofer. That' a fact.

It controlls application quick launch. You can configure a program or multiple programs to launch with this feature.
