Problem:
The MSI GX60's power button is annoyingly bright. Does anybody know how to switch this off?
-
I just stuck a small piece of electrical tape on it. I agree it's very bright especially at night time.

Some tape or a cloth or a marker I suppose, or close the lid and have your power settings on do nothing when the lid closes.

Pointed taken about the electric tape and piece of cloth, however I feel using a marker, would be in some sense, damaging your laptop.
1. The ideal solution would be a software option. A program that switch the white led on and off. (This should be possible, as the led light turns off when closing the lid.)
2. Physical disconnecting or removing the led from it's power source. (This wouldn't be the preferred method though, due to the possibly of voiding your MSi 2 year warranty or damaging your unit.)
might consider writing to MSi regarding this issue.. -

Sorry should have been clear, I was joking about the marker.
Are you saying it's annoying when using the machine? -
I want off I say. -
Personally I wouldn't want to take it off completely. I think it's important to know when the GPUs are switching so you know they are working. For me it would be like switching off the hard drive light.
I made a cool slit in the electrical tape so I can see the indicator light yet its not bright and looks good too. -

I too have used electrical tape for those unnecessarily bright status indicator lights - but that's a cosmetic fix (and it doesn't exactly look good). I really doubt you'll find software to specifically dim or power off the LED. Also, I'm not certain on this - but I don't think the light has a separate connection. Disconnecting it means disconnecting the power button altogether. It may be possible to shunt the pin that provides power to the light, but I don't know the guts well enough on the gx60 to tell you which pin, or if it's even feasible.
And in any case, yes: you will void the warranty by trying to make modifications like that, so electrical tape just might be your best friend. -

A carefully cut piece of partially transparent tape should do, you could actually try placing it under the panel itself rather than over the button but beware of using the correct kind of tape for that and place it on the plastic top side rather than the PCB.
