MSI GT83VR 7RF SSD daily Chkdsk Errors

This issue drove me up the wall and I was about to RMA this Samsung 961 Pro 512GB SSD's.
For the past several weeks Windows 10 would flash message that there are errors on drive and had
to constantly do Chkdsk. One time when I had huge Windows 10 Update, after Reboot, BSOD screen.
When I copied a huge file to a separate partition in the same SSD Windows 10 would go BSOD and
after reboot the copied file is gone and a file "found000" would appear after Chkdsk???

Finally after turning off Secure Boot, Fast Boot, deleting hibernation, turned off Windows Cacheing
somehow did the trick, and somehow no more SSD disk errors. But fast shutdown still creates
BSOD's when rebooting the next day and had to resort to CMD "shutdown /s /t o".

Initially, I had to switch to AHCI from RAID to make the triple boot with Ubuntu and Windows Pro work.

Essentially I am not able to use all those fancy features with this $5K machine??????????????

Maybe somebody has a workaround to use all these features that I have not come across yet.

 

Which thing is "fast shutdown"? Do you have the appropriate Samsung or Inte driver installed for the SSD drive?

 

Sorry. Got it the other way around. I switched it from RAID to AHCI.
Ubuntu would not would not work on dual boot if the SSD's are on
RAID Config.

But, ever since I turned of Windows Cacheing (Write-back) I have
not had any errors pop up so far. Although, if I normally shutdown
using the Start Button I still encounter BSOD once in awhile. I am
forced to type "shutdown /s /t 0" or "shutdown /r" using 'Windows Key+R'.

SSD is very likely defective since it also uses SMART mechanism to provide its health parameters to PC systems.
You can also verify this using HDD/SSD health monitoring utility to inspect the drive.

 

Well, let me tell you that:

1) I installed the trial version of SSDLife and it could not detect any SSD's on my system??? They give 3 reasons why this is so but the first one was that the SSD's maybe are FAKE SSD's or Enhanced Flash Drives made to look like SSD's?

2) I installed Samsung Magician and it said that the SSD's are not supported???

3) I installed gsmartcontrol and it said that the SSD's are NOT SMART-capable or does NOT have SMART monitoring?????

4) Although, the Free CrystalDiskInfo software detected them and told me that both SSD's were in "Good" condition???????

5) One thing that I have not done yet is get inside and physically look at the SSD's themselves and examine the markings and labels on the SSD's etc.

So far, at this point I have not had any errors since I turned-off Write-back Cacheing of the SSD's in Windows 10. I may try to turn on Secure-boot and Fast Boot in the BIOS and see how it will affect the SSD's.

 

Your SSD is OEM version which isn't supported by Samsung Magician. But if CDI says good then it should be good.

 

Did you install the Samsung driver for the SSDs?

 

Windows 10 Home was pre-installed. Not sure if Samsung Drivers were installed/. I am assuming that Windows 10 native drivers are installed. Where do you download Samsung SSD drivers?

 

There's one on the Samsung website for the 950 Pro. It might work for your SSD. I have seen one for the 961 Pro listed on other websites.

 

This seems like just a bad drive at this point, I would contact Samsung for RMA and get this replaced. Samsung usually has a 1-2 business day turnaround for RMA's.

 

Try a clean install, but if problem persists then you will probably want to swap it out.
