Has anyone tried upgrading the video card in one of these? My friend has a GT783-625US with a gtx 580m and he's looking to upgrade to a gtx 680m or better. I believe it's just a standard MXM 3.0 card in this notebook, so I don't see why it wouldn't work, using the existing 580m cooler with a few thermal pad tweaks and a modified driver.

Can anyone confirm that this ia possible, has anyone here performed a similar upgrade?

I don't see why it wouldn't work, but these GPU cards are pretty expensive.

    What about cpu upgrades?

would they be limited to 2nd gen i7's ?

What Power supply rating must you have?

120w only good for the 560M or do the newer cards have lower power requirements?

For 770m is different heatsink than in 570m/580m and should be changed if you don`t want to have after 3-5 months black screen when vga card gets temps around 80. Users are using 570m/580m heat sink but there is different layout of heatsink for 770m and heatsink can be even with bridge. Using bad heat sink will leads to damage of transistors for power section gpu in short time of using it.

The notebook should support a GTX 680m, from what I can tell. Both the 580m and 680m are 100w cards, so it shouldn't make any difference to the power supply. They're both MXM 3.0b, so it should fit right in. As far as the heat sink is concerned, that's the only thing I'm not so sure about. I would imagine that as long as I replace the thermal pads with new ones and match them up to make good contact between the card components and the heatsink, it should work. Still, I'm wondering if anyone here has performed a similar upgrade and can confirm this.

They do require different heatsink assembly.
Will need to modify it, or purchase the compatible one for 680M.

what is required to modify the heatsink?

will the gtx 770m also require a modification?

So it would be a replacement not a modification if you were to get a keplar card ?

also are the gt60/70 heatsink same for gt780?

Well I've been looking at pictures of the gpu's of different nvidia mxm 3.0b cards.

    260m 460m 480m(bigger die) 560m 660m 680m 765m 770m all seem to use the square heatsink

    470m 485m 570m 580m 675m use the rectangular one.

Not sure if the 560m gpu and 765/770m would be the same heatsink even though they are both square, the 7xx ones may be slightly bigger.

And who's to say if the sellers have the right picture up in the first place.

    can anyone confirm ?
