I wanted to start this thread to get some feedback regarding the i-charger. Synopsis:
My neighbor had to send 2 defective laptops back to vendor due to keyboard issues. He also noticed that on both of the laptops, with the latest drivers, inclding the latest i-charger driver installed and running, would not charge the ipad. Not at the rate where the ipad is actually confirming the charge.
Even if ipad says it's Not Charging, it still is charging at a slow trickle rate. With the i-Charger (enabled in the bios), and the driver running, it should allow the laptop to draw more power for the tablet.
In the case of the 2 laptops I've tested, this wasn't the case. It would only trickle charge, and the ipad would say "Not Chargin".
I own a MSI motherboard Big-Bang X-Power, with i-charger support. And on the desktop, it charges the ipad just fine. However, I wasn't able to get it to charge on the GT-780R. It could be a setup issue, but I would like to get some feedback around this if you own this laptop and have an ipad.
I want to buy this laptop since I believe it's perfect for my needs (design, chassis, how cool it runs, matt screen, list goes on and on). The only con so far is the keyboard, and i-charger.
Thank you.

However, Do you even own this notebook? If not why keep starting threads for problems for a notebook you do not own? -

How do you know i-charger is working? I own a gt683 but when i start icharger a red cross icon appears next to the clock, even if i plug in a device (mobile phone in my case)

Interesting...I have a iPad at home, ill check to see if the icharger works on my gt683r as soon as I get home.

I appreciate you checking this at any rate.
1. make sure i-charger feature in turned on in the Bios.
2. Be sure icharger app is installed and running.
Once ipad is plugged in, just in case, keep the itunes running, and double check the ipad charge status. Both laptops tested said "Not Charging on top right.
If it is working then you should see a lightning bolt icon in ipad battery, which implies that proper wattage / amps are being drawn from the laptop.
Thanks. -

Thanks. Do you know if the Motherboard for gt684r and gt780r are the same?

Good to know. Thanks for checking. Gives me a bit more peace of mind...

I am having a little trouble charging Ipad2 on my laptop USB also. On my ASUS laptop I downloaded their charging utility and was able to charge my Ipad2 ONLY if itune was not launched. With the new update to iOs, I cannot check off the option "launch itune when this device is connected." On GT780R, I can't charge my ipad2 with icharger because the stupid itunes will always launch and won't let me not launch it first. Apple does what apple wants and don't seem to care about what I want
big sigh. I should never have updated the stupid iOs. Actually I should never had bought iPad2. My gf's galaxy tab 10.1 looks so good
and it let's me upload anything I want without having to offer my 2nd born child to itunes god.

UPDATE.
just downloaded ASUS Ai charger and it worked.
I don't know how safe it is to use ASUS Ai charger on MSI notebook so I won't post links here for download though. My Ipad2 is now charging nicely on my GT780R. Too bad icharger won't work
BTW, Ai charger is free to download and virus free. -
I don't know about the ASUS Ai, but the i-charger definitely did not work on the 2 GT780Rs. If you are able to charge it using other non-MSI app, I have to believe it's a software issue, and not hardware.
I appreciate the confirmation.
