Okay, this is driving me crazy. I wouldn't go as far to say I am an audiophile, but I really do enjoy peak quality and I can't figure out where these supposed hidden DSP's or audio enhancer plug ins are.

To test I am using Foobar2000 v1.1.11 as a media player, and I am using it with both the primary sound driver, and ASIO4all.

primary sound driver: realtek 6.0.1.6482 HD Audio ALC892

    ASIO4all v2.11 Beta1

    speakers: V-moda Crossfade LP headphones

With ASIO the sound is slightly louder, clearer, and seems flatter across the spectrum. Now this SHOULDN'T be, because I am not using any DSP's and my EQ is flat. ASIO4all isn't truly a driver, it's a wrapper to bypass WDM audio (sorry to the experts if that's wrong in some way), so it should be exactly the same, or at least indistinguishable to the human ear. This leads me to believe there is some sound managagment profile or DSP setting hidden somewhere in the driver, or a software set to control it. I haven't installed ANY DSP's, and the THXtru studio pro stuff is set to off, so it shouldn't be doing anything either.

The problem? I can only use ASIO4all with supported players and applications, and when using ASIO4all, only that application can generate sound. Highly inconvenient for multi-tasking :(

My only thought is perhaps the ASIO4all driver just allows SLIGHTLY more volume, and my headphones get a better sound from high volume? I am testing at max volume.

I know this probably doesn't matter to 99% of the people out there, but if anyone can shed some light on this, that would be great! thanks :) (even if the solution is just a better audio driver or something)

Instead of ASIO use WASAPI it is much easier to use. Less problems when I tried both a long time ago and just seems overall more compatible with the same quality results.
